I can't seem to figure out the magic keyboard combination to bring up the context assistant in V8...maybe it's different on a mac. Help???

The keystroke is indicated on the Textual view. Off the top of my head it is Shift and Option (but am willing to be corrected). It seems to be a bit temperamental though or my prior errors prevent it showing up.

on a mac keyboard it's FN F3 - unless context assistant is not what I'm thinking about - I'm still on 5.9

Still not working for me. Not sure if it's because I use screen sharing to connect to my remote server. It wasn't working for me in prior versions, but I didn't take the time to figure out why because it would just pop up automatically. Now I'm REALLY missing it because it no longer pops up for me :(

Mark is right. the Alt (Option) key will bring up the context assistant. Bruce

I believe you...so it must be my screen share setup or version of MAC OS. Unfortunately hours spent on google has been no help. I was hoping it was something simple I was missing.

Are you screen sharing or remote desktop-ing into your server, and if so, what OS is the server. I use Microsoft Remote Desktop on my Mac (10.12.6) and Function F3 works for me. When I switch to a Windows keyboard, it's just F3 (Server is Win Server 2012) - FN is the one in the top bank of keys next to the Numeric keys on a Mac Keyboard. Probably teaching my Grandma to suck eggs here but best to cover all bases - It's usually something simple in the end

Ahhh . Try CTRL ALT (Just got my V8 eval setup) Update - first time in I had to use CTRL ALT. After bringing it up once and putting it away with ESC, then just ALT worked fine - so it does seem to be a little temperamental, unless for some reason it's that way by design

Thanks Rocketman. The CTRL ALT, F3, etc isn't working. I've tried many different combinations...but still open to all tips simple or complex, I will try them all. My setup is MAC OS 10.12.6 (home) to my hosted dedicated server MAC OS 10.12.5 (running apple's server OS) via Screen Share.

have to bow out here since I no nothing about Mac server software. If I had to make a guess I would say that use of the function keys (CTRL, ALT, CMD etc are being blocked by the |Screen sharing element. I have a remote desktop app on my iPhone that does exactly that. I can rd in to restart AwareIM if I need to but I can't press CTRL ALT DEL to bring up Task Manager unless I either buy the pro version or set up some macros to do it with one click. Have you got space on your home machine to quickly install a V8 eval? If everyone's comments in this thread works - then you know for sure it's either the screen saver itself (most likely) or something in the Mac Server software that is disallowing it

I use a Mac, and connect remotely to 2 Windows sites using Aware Config v8.
Also connect to multiple windows servers (non aware).

I use a Razer Blackwidow Chroma - I can perform all functions and all shortcuts on any platform with this kbd.
Through PCAnywhere, Teamviewer or MS RD.

But I have to make sure they keyboard is in gaming mode - and the local Razer software is running. After reboots, its kinda a pain cause I don't remember the funky kbd combinations to toggle those modes or even what all the damn lights mean on the kbd - I have to run Razer to reset the gaming mode.

Anyways, if you want to Skype to me, we could connect to your site and see if I can execute the key commands. Maybe you just need a diff. kbd.

Thanks for the suggestion and offer to help! I think I have determined this issue lies with the remote server being a Mac and the option key behaving different locally than it does remotely. It seems that I may be a rare developer that uses a Mac remote server, so I have a Mac to Mac connection rather than a Mac to Windows server (that connection doesn't have the issue). (If there are you out there, please let me know if you are experiencing the same issue). I worked with my Mac hosting support over the weekend to see if they could help (and they tried), but it looks like it is software specific. It may be a 3rd party software that Aware uses or, most likely, something in the Mac server OS that is interfering with the option key bringing up the Assistant (though the Option key does work). It's odd. I may try teamviewer as a connection when I get a chance to see if that makes a difference. I have tried playing around with the keyboard types and settings for a number of hours with no luck. Though not ideal, I do have a workaround solution set up with Aware. My hope is that one of the future OS server updates will just fix the issue.
