V8 - Context Assistant on MAC

I can't seem to figure out the magic keyboard combination to bring up the context assistant in V8...maybe it's different on a mac. Help???

The keystroke is indicated on the Textual view. Off the top of my head it is Shift and Option (but am willing to be corrected).

It seems to be a bit temperamental though or my prior errors prevent it showing up.

on a mac keyboard it's FN F3 - unless context assistant is not what I'm thinking about - I'm still on 5.9

Still not working for me. Not sure if it's because I use screen sharing to connect to my remote server. It wasn't working for me in prior versions, but I didn't take the time to figure out why because it would just pop up automatically. Now I'm REALLY missing it because it no longer pops up for me 🙁

Mark is right. the Alt (Option) key will bring up the context assistant.

I believe you...so it must be my screen share setup or version of MAC OS. Unfortunately hours spent on google has been no help. I was hoping it was something simple I was missing.

Are you screen sharing or remote desktop-ing into your server, and if so, what OS is the server. I use Microsoft Remote Desktop on my Mac (10.12.6) and Function F3 works for me. When I switch to a Windows keyboard, it's just F3 (Server is Win Server 2012) - FN is the one in the top bank of keys next to the Numeric keys on a Mac Keyboard. Probably teaching my Grandma to suck eggs here but best to cover all bases - It's usually something simple in the end

Ahhh . Try CTRL ALT (Just got my V8 eval setup)

Update - first time in I had to use CTRL ALT. After bringing it up once and putting it away with ESC, then just ALT worked fine - so it does seem to be a little temperamental, unless for some reason it's that way by design

Thanks Rocketman. The CTRL ALT, F3, etc isn't working. I've tried many different combinations...but still open to all tips simple or complex, I will try them all. My setup is MAC OS 10.12.6 (home) to my hosted dedicated server MAC OS 10.12.5 (running apple's server OS) via Screen Share.

have to bow out here since I no nothing about Mac server software. If I had to make a guess I would say that use of the function keys (CTRL, ALT, CMD etc are being blocked by the |Screen sharing element.

I have a remote desktop app on my iPhone that does exactly that. I can rd in to restart AwareIM if I need to but I can't press CTRL ALT DEL to bring up Task Manager unless I either buy the pro version or set up some macros to do it with one click.

Have you got space on your home machine to quickly install a V8 eval? If everyone's comments in this thread works - then you know for sure it's either the screen saver itself (most likely) or something in the Mac Server software that is disallowing it

What happens if you connect keyboard & screen to your Mac Mini server and work locally? can you bring up the context Server then?

On your non-server machine, Have you looked in System Preferences/Keyboard that you have a) the right keyboard mapped and b) the modifier keys are mapped correctly (there's a button on the first "General" tab)

Is there a reason not to use the configurator locally whilst keeping your server remote? Apart from anything else your performance whilst editing will be a bit better.

Ok - I know it works on a Mac - thats my dev machine. I just downloaded a VMC viewer to my tablet and connected but couldn't get any of the modifier keys to work, so I guess it's either going to be a case of testing a few others out until you find one that works or work locally as Pointswell suggests. (I'm guessing your Mac Mini server is local to you since I don't know of any commercial ISP's that provide Mac Server platforms)

My server is located in Las Vegas and I'm in Calgary, Canada (https://www.macstadium.com - great service, used them for 7 years).
If I can configure locally and run my server elsewhere, I'm open to it, I didn't think that was possible without 2 developer licences.
It does appear my modifier keys are not doing what they should. My tech savvy is limited, not sure how to get around this one. How about a button in the config tool to mouse click to pull it up??

Why thank you kind sir. It is not outwith the bounds of probability that it is the product of a legal education. And I wholeheartedly concur with your estimations of version 8.

Totally agree that V8 is a major improvement. My learning curve has sped up now that the IDE is more intuitive. Now if we could just get the last of these bugs squashed, I can fly.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions! I finally got a chance to download an evaluation version on my local mac and YES the Option key works as it should. So the issue is with my screenshare connection. Don't think there is a fix for it, so I will check with Support for suggestions.
Also very happy with all the improvements in V8 (great job Aware)...much faster to work with and once the bugs are out I look forward to less swearing 🙂
