I recently came across the refreshed AwareIM website and the updated pricing structure. The new design looks great, and I found the introduction of the $0 starter plan particularly appealing. It’s certainly a smart move to encourage more developers to explore the platform and benefit from updates at no cost.

I do have a couple of clarifications:
1. When referring to “single user” in the starter plan, does this imply a single developer using the configuration tool, or is it referring to a single end user accessing the published application?
2. Additionally, I noticed that licensing now includes flexible monthly payment options alongside the traditional annual plans. Could you please clarify what happens if a subscription is not renewed? Will the AwareIM instance stop functioning, or will it continue running with some limitations?

The starter plan is designed for people to try out AwareIM before making a commitment. The intention is that it should be sufficient for a quick PoC and to demonstrate it on the same machine.

The subscription plan is monthly / annual subscription, use it for the time that you need it. If you don’t need to have the server running you can stop the payment and the server and restart it later. If you forget to renew it you’ll get reminders beforehand.

Also the server will now work in conjunction with an Awaresoft licensing server. If you decide that you want to change servers that will now be possible for you to do without our assistance.

What does this mean in practice? we stay on V9? or get V10 as a valued long-time customer. and if V9 for how long will it receive updates/bug fixes

AwareIM has always worked on the basis of there being a current model and all subsequent releases are updates on the current version. Bug fixes have always gone into the next build and been released.

While you are welcome to remain on V9 it isn’t formally supported after the release of V10, as in if there is an issue found it will be updated in the next build of V10, but we don’t branch the V9 builds. We don’t really have the capacity to maintain multiple branches of prior releases.

As long as your maintenance is up to date, you’ll be able to migrate to V10 when you decide and will benefit from bug fixes being in that build.

I am not sure if Rocketman’s question is fully answered. If I choose the “current arrangements” in the customer portal, do I get V10? And if so, is there a difference between using V10 on “legacy pricing” and the new subscription model? (assuming the “Business” subsription). Apart from the difference in the annual price, is there any other difference in terms of features, support, updates etc?

Well Kudos to AwareIM Team for new release v10!

I have downloaded the starter version (Trial version) and evaluating at this moment. I have following queries based on my observation or working on version 10.

I found there AwareIM instance no more work if internet is not available to machine. Is it correct?
There are limitation to create BO in the starter version which was not before which we use in trial version. Is it correct?
Does AwareIM Instance do background calling to AwareIM? if yes then to what extent. I saw when I use AwareIM AI Assist it might do some updates related to number of prompts or token which is fine but as Instance does not start if machine is offline which is concern in some cases.
During testing I found there is message keep coming “you have exceeded the user limit” even only one developer is working all time and perform test on BSV which is annoying as then have to restart the whole system to fix it.

These new changes will really required to understand and if we want to build any solutions for our customer to address them from developer perspective.

Hi Himanshu

Yes the free version is intended to give new users an easy route into trying out AwareIM, but it isn’t designed for full system development. Unlike the trial version there is no end date to the Starter Tier. It should be enough to put together a small demo but is not intended for building a full app with. You will need an internet connection when you start the free version in order to confirm the license.

If you are building solutions for your customers use the Business Tier.

Yes I understand what you said above to build solutions we have to use the Business Tier. I am currently only using the starter version for testing evaluating the changes comes with v10. This also allow us or our number of customers to decide to move ahead with migration or not.

You said trial version in v10 is no end date if I understand correctly but every time when we open the AwareIM or config below dialogue appears.

I have not issues with trial days but if it has limited to days then trial is appropriate word.

There are options that are available for a limited amount of time, such as AIM assist, those are trials, the Starter tier has no end date.

Version 10 on subscription has the features associated with the tier subscribed to. On Legacy it has whatever extras you had previously purchased.

You will get Version 10 with both legacy and subscription.

We tried a project with a second server… And we were gonna use the reverse proxy to automatically redirect to the second server if the first server ever went down.
Which it never has, and we never needed to have it kick in, but we’re paying the same price for the second server which for two years has just sat there.

I would prefer not to use the term “legacy” in this context. I’ve been trying for some time to convince a government agency to move away from their current legacy system (dating back to the Windows 3.1 era) to a modern platform like AwareIM. Referring to the new model as “legacy” again doesn’t help that effort.

It would be clearer to distinguish between two types of licensing models:
1) Server-based licenses
2) Subscription-based licenses

Additionally, I believe that in a subscription model, the number of servers should not influence the cost. I use additional servers not because of scaling client numbers, but to ensure performance remains acceptable and to reduce the risk of downtime if one server crashes.
