[SOLVED] Error when trying to use Local SQL Express

Hi Guys;

I've installed SQL Express 2012 on my Windows 10 machine and I can access it with SQL Management Studio. and the instant running.
However, when I go to Aware's Control Panel and go to settings and try to use SQL database, no matter if I leave mostly blanks for default or enter the values, I always get the following error in V7.1
This is the trail version of Aware on a test machine.

I use the port 1433 and name SQLExpress but no luck. The final error seems to be related to User login. But this happens when Aware is trying to create the inital database for BASDB.

Unable to create or locate the databases required. Error message returned by the database is: Unable to create database BASDB Login failed for user ''. ClientConnectionId:535764d5-d96f-46dc-bbdf-f95c05d9ad17.

Or I get the following error
Unable to create or locate the databases required. Error message returned by the database is: Unable to create database BASDB The connection to the host ., named instance SQLExpress failed. Error: "java.net.UnknownHostException: .". Verify the server and instance names and check that no firewall is blocking UDP traffic to port 1434. For SQL Server 2005 or later, verify that the SQL Server Browser Service is running on the host.

It appears to be a login failure versus a protocol issue.

Are you using a SQL Server admin username and password?

No matter which credentials fro SQL server I use in Aware settings, it fails to create BASDB.

I just used sa and my password, and it failed.
I wish Aware could give us an option to use Windows Authentication during development.

I had tried that before and got other errors.

Error: "null. Verify the connection properties. Make sure that an instance of SQL Server is running on the host and accepting TCP/IP connections at the port. Make sure that TCP connections to the port are not blocked by a firewall.".

If I do that I get the first error:

I even went ahead and created and entry in Windows Firewall to allow 1433 For TCP/IP and Domain access.

Solved it. Problem was with the SQL default installation to ONLY accept Windows Authentication and not SQL Server authentication. Once that was changed, Aware CP was able to connect to SQL Server.

By default, when installed it will select only windows authentication, but it DOES ask you during the installation if you want to change that. Glad you figured it out.

I must have missed it. But I'm glad you know about. 🙂
