SINGLE most important feature you need for 8.1?

Gentleman, as V8 is getting close to going live, I thought we give our feedback/needs to Aware Team to get ideas on V8.1.
To keep it manageable, please provide only ONE feature that is most important to you with details so AwareSoft can get ideas on the feature you desire.

I'll start mine, since this is a show stopper for me with current system.

Please extend the "Picture" type in the BO that could store images as
a) DB (the default)
b) FILE SYSTEM - if this option is selected, please offer two sub-options: a) A text attribute to store the path & image name and an option for us to select image type (png or jpg or bmp or etc.)

Important Note: Currently at runtime, Aware has to extract the images from BLOB attribute, create a physical image on Aware's folder (under Tomcat) so Tomcat can deliver that image to end user. This process is very time & resource consuming (especially with grids & queries) and for Image stored in DB that's the way it needs to be done. And this is ONE of the reason I need to get away from images stored in DB (plus DB size growth).
HOWEVER, once the Image FILE SYSTEM is introduced, we also can get one major benefit, which means the Image is already stored on the OS drive which Aware does NOT need to create a new one again.
My second request on this part is, for AwareSoft to tell us, WHERE we should store the images (Under Tomcat folder I assume) that Aware and Tomcat, can simply point to the existing images rather than creating a new one. THIS will save server a great deal of time, resource and space.
PLEASE combine this feature which would make our app much more optimized.

Ben, I think this would be a problem as it would mean when updating AwareIM version the store of images has to be taken care of, could be very cumbersome if the store has grown to 30 GB or something and you need to copy it over - unless I am misunderstanding you

My Single most wanted feature is the REST feature as in
V8.1 Feature Request>
Oh also , can I squeeze this one in - FORMS without refresh option - inline editing on Forms

A more efficient testing cycle.

When pressing the 'Make Version Available For Testing' button or Ctrl-T, have the 'Test Version' form that appears default to the last used settings. Merge the Login selector that appears on the subsequent form into the 'Test Version' form and have the choice also default to the last used login. By doing this the embedded browser testing can be started with 1 click not 3.

It's something that is done hundreds of times every day and each mouse click or keystroke saved adds up to a significant gain in useability, time saved and reduced irritation.
It's dead easy to implement.

Mike, you know there is a QUICK test (alt Q) that skips all of the questions, and if you have an external browser open, you just have to refresh it.

My #1, primo request would be for INLINE editing to work a lot better! With the ability to have check boxes, not having to tab to a new row to save the record and perhaps, dare I say it, cursor focus control. (to be implemented, via a rule or process, so I could have a rule like IF BO.attr WAS CHANGED THEN setFocus(BO.attr)

Tony, when you're right, you are right. Hope Support can give another solution that doesn't require creating new images every time you need to display one.

My number 1 request for 8.1 has to be better handling and control of incoming email when using IMAP in AwareIM.

Specifically I would like AwareIM to behave more like a normal email client in the sense that it would download all incoming email from the mail server, read or unread, not just those that are unread. When I say all, I mean those that it has not iterated over before and I would also like to be able to set a limit of, say, the last 2 weeks or last 30 days (this is so that AwareIM doesn't download 100k emails when a new user enters his mail server credentials).

I would also like AwareIM to leave a copy of the email on the server - at the moment it downloads unread email and completely removes it from the server meaning that other clients engaged with the same server don't get a chance to download them too. (In most email clients it's possible decide if you want to leave a copy on the mail server or not)

My scenario is this: I want my incoming email on my mobile phone through my phones in built email client, I want to view it on web-mail through a standard browser, I want it on my laptop email client but I also want my AwareIM application to download a copy of it and archive it to my customer BO or staff BO or supplier BO, etc.

As long as AwareIM only downloads unread email and 'steals' it from the mail server, 'incoming email' in AwareIM is very limited.

Use case example

Salesman is a record of type contact
Salesman has clients viewable on a related grid
Click on a client record to reorientate the selected contact from the salesman to the client contact record.

Stock catalogue VP with a query and a form, email a link to the product in context

Link takes recipient to the VP with that product in context

Same principle but in this case it is external.

Internal example:

VP with customer and summary order details. The link this time might be to a different VP with a more detailed version of the order and order lines.

Single 1 feature? For me it´s 1 of each of the above haha 😃. Good requests all of them above and all make sense and are needed and except for that I would ay more focus on mobile features so better integration of mobile device capabilities, better (easier, more reliable, more features etc. etc.) native build capabilities etc.. I am just back from holiday and don´t have my thinking cap on yet but more thoughts will probably come.

I wanted to make one important emphasis on my feature request to support, and that is...

Currently, if we use FILE SYSTEM to store images, we lose ALL the current features that are supported through Aware when image is stored in DB. When the new feature is offered to give us a choice for "PICTURE" type to be stored in DB or FILE SYSTEM (With path & file name as extra attribute and Images format), ALL the current features to be retained not to break the apps.

This is the most critical point of having the benefits of FILE SYSTEM and still having the features of DB.

Absolutely Ben,
I hope there is a high priority to get the file system feature on the PICTURE attribute as we have on the Document attribute. Also very important, the file system functionality must not disable any of the PICTURE features and functions as these will be needed at the same time

I have a big project coming up with images and relying heavily on this functionality, .....can't wait

Just came back from holiday and I'm glad to see activity on the forum.

I have many requests for 8.1, but the most important for me right now is that to be able to present astonishing reports to the users (invoices, letters, etc.).
So my request is to bring all features of Jasper Reports Studio to Aware IM.
