Grids should allow inline editing & Default Operation

I use the default option a lot. So many times when a user clicks on a grid row, I want to at least save the record in LoggedInRegularUser (and many times, do other fun stuff.). I don't want to require the user to click on a button in the row (that would be a less than satisfactory User experience). However, if I want to allow INLINE editing, the default does not work.

Can this be fixed? Changed?

..on the subject of Grids, an enhancement would be nested Group By's both by way of the Config. Tool and the user dragging column headings to a bar at the top of the grid, as demo'd via the following link:

Not sure I understand what this is about. Records edited inline are automatically saved when the user moves to another row or presses a special button (if the Save Changes operation has been defined)

I use DEFAULT actions all the time in grids. So when a user clicks on a row (selects it), many many times I want to save the record in LoggedInRegularUser. Many times I also want to run some other process. I don't want to require the user to click a button on the right to select the row.

The default action works fine UNLESS the grid is set to inline editing. Then default actions are ignored. The only way to have a process run from a grid is to have a button that the user has to click.

Can this be changed?

Bruce, do you envisage the duel functionality you suggest working for all Item Operation Types?
Or do you think the duel functionality should only work when an Item Operation set as Default is a Process?
Suppose Allow Inline Editing is enabled for a Grid.
And suppose there is an Item Operation which has been set as Default and Display Text and Display Icon are not enabled.
Thus when a Grid record/row is clicked the Operation set as Default will be executed, AND the Grid Cell will switch to Edit mode.
What if the Operation does not run a Process, but is of type View Object or Edit Object.
What happens then?
When Allow Inline Editing is enabled, do you think the duel functionality should only work when the Type of the Item Operation which has been flagged as Default is Run Process?
Or do you think it should apply in all cases, and it is up to the Configurer not to configure anything nonsensical?
And, if so, which happens first? ..the Item Operation which has been set as Default is processed, or the Grid Cell switching to Edit mode?

Default actions are not supported when inline editing is on. Cannot be changed, sorry.

Purest, I don't see an issue (although since Support just said it can't be changed, the point is moot).

I default action is JUST like an action that has a button inline with the grid, but instead of requiring the user to click on the button to both select the record and run the process, they can click anywhere on the row. A much superior UI in my opinion. The default action can do anything a process does. Can run queries, open edit form, etc. etc.

I agree with you, it would be an improved UX, but was just wondering how you foresaw it working.
I reckon the next best UX option is for the user to edit the record via a form in its expanded row.. IF the row expansion option isn't already used for something else.
