Run From DropBox v 6.5

Hi Folks - not been here in a while - taking the opportunity to trial AwareIM again after a couple of years since last time.

I'd like to run development from DropBox in order to access from all my devices (windows tablet and desktop etc).

Can I simply install AwareIM on all those devices and access the development file (I guess a BSV file???) from DBox or is it possible to install AwareIM on a DBox directory and access all of the functionality from there?

Any experience of this would be welcome.

BTW I am very surprised (pleasantly) by the changes in AwareIM over the last few years since first trialling it back in 2010. I have not yet looked into the new functionality in V7 but I suspect it will be awesome! AwareIM did not meet our development requirements back then but it may well support 75% of what we need now in v 6.5 and perhaps even more in v7.

Welcome back 🙂 ... Indeed AwareIM evolved very much in these years, you have to see v7, it's a game changer 🙂.

About installing I suggest to look in UserGuide. You can install Configuration tool on a separate machine and can access the server remotely .

On mobile devices I use RDP or teamviewer directly on development server.

If your project needs Mobile, you should seriously consider V7. You can build a full blown app for Mobile.

We do need to develop for mobile - one of the reasons we are looking at other development environments currently. Not sure if V7 has the facility but we are not only looking for web / HTML5 solutions but also the ability to have disconnected mobile clients too. We currently use windows tablets for this but really need a cross platform solution.

Many thanks for the feedback on my question. I shall investigate further the connection possibilities for development. Currently I am just in a trial so don't have the server deployed externally (just on my dev PC) but was hoping to be able to easily take the development solution with me on my travels - only 30 days for the trial software so want to make the best of it and compare all the functionality we need so we don't make a poor decision or jump the wrong way :oops: .

By "disconnected mobile clients" , do you mean "working offline"?

V7 is introducing such a feature. Not tested yet, but seems promising.

Yes George - that's exactly what I mean. We used downloaded data, then disconnect, and later sync the data back to the server. Works fine on our windows apps but we need iOS and Android too.

I guess I need to get to grips with v6 first then take a look at v7.

V6 does not have this feature. As Ben mentioned I suggest to look directly to v7 . Send a message to support@awareim.com to include you in beta testing.
