Talking to a friend about AwareIM. Their organization uses a Postgres database.

Does anyone know if AwareIM can connect to Postgres?

The NoSQL type databases have a totally different data structure, indexing, query than what Aware uses. I used to use another tool that was based on NoSQL database, and it could not work with SQL systems directly. So I assume the opposite is true as well.

For the type of applications that Aware is suited for, Relational Database seem to be better than a NoSQL structure.

Hi Tom.

I noticed there are JDBC connectors available for Postgres... https://jdbc.postgresql.org/
so yes, Aware should be able to connect to it.

Of course you would not be able to use exactly the same as an Aware BO but certainly you will be able to read and write to the BOs.

I already try but stuck at DatabaseComponent line on the BASServer.props file which I have download the latest version of JDBC Connector for PostgreSQL. I already try with com.bas.basserver.persistence.dbplugins.PostgreSQLInterface but the Aware IM can't run correctly. Anyone know what should I input for the line?

I think maybe support can fixed this issue on coming version or anyone in this forum can connect to PostgreSQL from Aware IM?

You don't need to modify the BASServer.props file.

Aware IM will NOT work with PostGre as a native database, it will only connect to an EXISTING PostGre table.
To do that you need to specify the properties of your JDBC driver when you create a business object as part of its persistence properties (see the User Guide for details). No configuration files of Aware IM need to be changed.

Yes, that's right. You do not have AUTOMATIC Aware IM-style references, but you can still manage references "manually" using ID attributes and special queries.

We will be working non improving this capability in the next version.

No change here from the last post. Aware IM is unlikely to support PostGres as a native database in the near future, but like I said, you can connect to an existing table.

So just to be clear, you can import a Postgres table and use it as a BO, but you can't have Aware make a table.

I think so but if I think you can use data integration software to push/pull the data from psql to mysql and vice versa (you should have plugin to done it).
