Will Kendo totally replace Sencha in the new version, meaning all custom themes and forms have to be reworked. I would like to be prepared for this as i imagine things could be quite disruptive in the upgrade process .

Tony, I'm not speaking behave of Support, but my personal suggestion is to start evaluating how to reverse any changes you have made to Themes or extended Sencha EXT, to be fully "Aware" compatible. This will surely help to convert your apps.

I have learned from past tools not to go outside of their system anymore, because when "they" changed the foundation, my app had become vulnerable. This time with Aware, I had stayed 100% withing Aware's range, except a few HTML to change color or font size.

But I plan to test during beta phase how V6 Desktop and mobile converts over.

Yes, the entire Sencha library will be replaced. We will still support version 6.0 for a long time after the release of version 7.0. But if you plan to upgrade to 7.0 then you may need to perform some changes to your application (hopefully not much). We are sure it will be worth the effort.

The changes will be around the following areas:

Themes will be different obviously
There will be some minor features of version 6.0 that will not be supported in 7.0 (we have a list of those if anyone is interested)
Current Advanced scripts will no longer work and will have to be replaced with the Kendo UI-based scripts)

Yes please, when development has finalized, give us list of V6 features that are no longer in V7, so we could start eliminating them from V6.

Regarding, Advanced Script section, Please provide some samples how to use some of the Kendo Widgets features that are not supported, for example, in the ToolTip how we can use the Ajax support of widget to show a complete form as a tooltip.

This is the list of "lost features". It is probably more than 90% complete.

Lost features:

Icon alignment and size
Anchor for height
Height of containing panel in VP - only needed for HBox and VBox layout for alignment
Filter button, "no borders" in grids - no longer used
Left justification for form buttons put in the application menu - no longer supported
Display resize handles - no longer supported
Enforce single selection for groups in grids
Control whether to load mask in grids
Responsive width for grid columns - no longer used
Responsive feature for content panels in visual perspective - to be replaced with responsive grid layout
Responsive visibility condition for tabs in a visual perspective
Parameters of the tag field - no longer used
"Display time separately" and width of time field parameters in datetime presentation - replaced by Kendo UI datetime control
Vertical/horiz. orientation for checkbox and radio groups - no longer used
Glyph support for icons - no longer used. Replaced by classes
"Display attribute node" in trees - no longer used
"Unlimited" for custom query layout - not supported
Calendar - show week days and week links. No longer supported
Old style calendar - no longer supported
Calendar yearly view not supported
Calendar disable drag and drop - not supported. Replaced by "move/resize events"
Calendar - number of days in day view not supported, replaced by Work Week view
Calendar - automatic scroll to start day. Replaced by "business hours" mode
Calendar - shading of non-working days.
Physical recurrence - not supported
-Gantt - baseline, not supported
Gantt - display on left and right, not supported
Gantt - styling of progress bar, not supported
Gantt - zooming, changing view, not supported
Chart - 3D, label orientation, "fill" flag for lines, "rounded" flag for bars, arbitrary text, donut percentage
for pies and gauges
-Gauges available in forms only, not queries

Are you referring the the following screen shot where icon is represented by a file? We use this extensively;

No. It's the same screen, but we refer to the "Icon represented by a font symbol" radio button - it will no longer be supported. It's functionality can be achieved by the "Icon is represented by the CSS class name" radio button

Support, please give us a clue as to why such a radical change, there has got to be a real big reason for such a change

I thought Sencha was maturing and going places, the last thing I thought of dumping them

I am not familiar at all with Kendo , are we about to jump on to some kind of rocketship or something. Please let us know so we can look forward to the ride

Support can you tell us yet if such things as mobile functionality and Gnatt charts will be separate licence add ons or with the change to the new product will everything be under the one licence?

Kendo UI is a fantastic and a very popular library created by a very reputable company. In our opinion it is a much better library than Sencha. It is based on jQuery, compatible with Bootstrap, very lighweight and looks very modern.

We are now more than three quarters of the way porting Aware IM to Kendo and so far found only a couple of minor glitches in Kendo UI. Aware IM version 6.0 based on Sencha has a huge amount of code with the only purpose of working around Sencha bugs. Porting the code to the next Sencha version was a nightmare. There are other reasons as well.

Licensing is likely to remain the same, but the final decision hasn't been made yet.

As a previous user of Telerik product, I concur with Support on the company and their product line. Support said it much better than I could have.
The move has also helped trimmed down the internal code not to deal with Sencha's bugs.

One thing that Kendo has worked very hard in the past 2 years, is to trim the amount of HTML and JS that has to travel over wire. In one webinar, I saw where they showed how much they have cut down on HTML/JS transmission and how the client side was much faster. Plus on the Mobile, it means less data to travel that saves bandwidth on the phone. The light weight alone was one of the main reasons many Sencha users moved to Kendo, plus as Support mentioned, their widgests are much more modern.
It was a great decision on Support side to move away from Sencha.

Can't wait to see Aware's little Mobile brother 🙂

PS: Will version 7 have the capability to Store images in a File System like documents or EVEN BETTER... Maybe capability to use Amazon S3 storage for images/files. This will be amazing!

Based on your current progress in the conversion and moving forward in V7, if we have stayed with stock Aware themes and no advanced JS in V6, how compatible do you feel our V6 apps going to be, to move to V7?

Secondly, since you mentioned the V7 Mobile will be a new design, should we continue in V6 Mobile development of our app, or should we wait for V7 Mobile? I'm not sure how much of our V6 Mobile app will convert over to V7 Mobile.

Any guidance would be appreciated!

Well, themes will be different, so most likely your forms will need to be adjusted - it is all explained in the previous post. Server functionality will be 100% compatible. Not sure about mobile functionality yet. Most likely you will need to make some changes to the front end. Whether to wait for 7 or not is up to you. If you have to sell you apps - don't wait. You will have plenty of time to port your apps to 7.

I'd like to like make a suggestion. There are a few of us here, who have worked extensively on Mobile. I for one, have pushed the envelop greatly. My suggestion is, during design & development of Mobile, you should get a group together so we could provide you a list of issues that we have run into with V6 Mobile, so these issues will be taken into considerations from the start.

I would agree that mobile is the most exciting/important feature improvement we would look for in V7. Desktop is already a great user experience, but this doesn't translate to tablet/mobile. If V7 can deliver a true reponsive mobile experience, then I would happily forego any other new feature for a focus on delivering this.
