Which Theme do you find/like the best?

Hi;

1) Different themes use different fonts, colors and sizes. Based on your and user experience, which Theme do you find to work best throughout your App?

2) Do you stay with one Theme for the whole App or do you switch based on user level?

3) Do you allow your users to change theme? If yes, is there a way to save their theme settings?[/img][/b]

Hi,

I use mostly Windows8 themes and yes I keep the same theme for the entire app.

The "Change theme" option is not functioning right. Support confirmed me and they think to disable that feature for the next builds.

I'm leaning [maybe] towards Windows 8 or Aria.
Aria provides a dark background, which helps all texts stand out more clear.

I use the Basic theme (not in V6 beta) and like it a lot. I use it with 1 color throughout the theme.

2) Secondly, do you use your app(s) for Intranet (controlled environment) or Internet, with public facing?

Here are my answers/thoughts.

1) I don´t want to talk to much about V6 on the public forum since the version isn´t officially released yet but I have spoken to support about the "Basic" theme, which will be released for extjs V5 within the next week or so (I have also spoken to the Codaxy team who has created the theme) and the new "Basic" theme will HOPEFULLY be included in the official V6 of Aware IM. I use the "Basic" theme as our main theme for several of our products (see link/example below) so not having it is a dealbreaker for me re upgrading to V6. If I would have chosen something else I would have probably gone with the W8 themes since they look good and has the most options (including multiple sizes, different colors for different UI components, etc..). I have thought about using the official extjs "Crisp" theme and think it can turn out real nice when used properly. For an example of the "Crisp" theme used in a nice way and in a nice application take a look at www.pixx.io.
You can see a screenshot of 1 of our main applications on our site. I haven´t shared in on this openly before since we haven´t really publicly launched anything yet (we are right now relatively close to launch) but you can see a screenshot if you scroll down to the middle of the first / main page: www.sparkr.info .

2) We have different types of apps, 1 (first) SaaS app (public), 2 private SaaS apps (custom developed SaaS app for a client/company) and 1 project in development. We are also looking into several new ideas for applications (SaaS).

PS: We are also currently looking into providing custom themes for Aware IM so there might be a lot more options for us all to chose from in the future. Not at all certain but is an idea we are evaluating.

Not sure if Henrik used this and if it was one of their templates but I can recommend a http://webflow.com for building gorgeous websites and they have a large range of lost cost templates.

Not to be confused with a Web App built in Aware, this site allows you to do all the user facing screens with little or no code.

When we launch the Aware IM Developers International Conference registration site you will see a combination of both technologies. Aware IM app with Webflow content.

Yes, this is primarily for Sales/Marketing;

I had looked them before, but their templates are not true "Responsiveness" templates. A friend had lots of issues due to not being a true Mobile ready. Even theirs site says:

Customize your designs for different screen resolutions inside Webflow.

Secondly, their hosting doesn't provide Email server.
And I wanted to run their templates on my own server, which don't support it.

Yes, you are correct Ben.

I don't use their hosting.

I use it just to design up pages quickly and then put it on my own server.

Henrik, this "Basic" theme you mentioned, is it mainly for "Aware" specific software or is it for EXT JS library in general? Another words, if/when Codaxy comes out with a new theme for EXTJS, does it mean we can buy it and it will automatically work with Aware or it does it have to be made for Aware?

Yes, all extjs themes can be used in Aware IM and now with Aware IM upgrading to extjs V5, there are some themes that will not be available anymore (extjs V4 themes not compatible with extjs V5). We will of course also get a couple of great new themes.

Regarding the "Basic" theme, it´s currently a extjs V4 theme (and we have had it in Aware IM since V5.8 or 5.9) but the Codaxy team are currently working on / finalizing their work with a theme upgrade so the theme is a extjs V5 theme with means we can also use in in Aware IM V6. Yes, you confirmed my exact findings.
As the original title of this thread, I'm 90% leaning towards "Gray" in V6. That looks the best in many respects. For years, I've done a lot of UI developments and the proper color/font/size coordination makes a huge difference on User eXperience.

With V6, I feel we can deliver a nice modern and professional looking apps.

Yeah the "Gray" theme is great. A tip is to think 2 steps ahead regarding tablet support etc.. I don´t think the existing "Gray" theme comes in different sizes which means if you intend to also develop a tablet version in the future, that might not work (or rather, you would have to do a lot of custom CSS work yourself to use that theme).

You could use the "Basic" theme and use the gray version of the theme. It is close to the original "Gray" theme in design but has different sizes etc.. Actually the entire "Basic" theme (all colors etc.) is really the "Gray" theme but enhanced (more options) and modernized a bit.

Excellent point. BUT, in V6 Beta, I don't see "Basic" option.
Thank you for pointing out the Gray's limitations.

The theme needs to offer the font adjustment for Tablet and Mobile. We could handle the layout by adopting the responsiveness, but the Theme needs to handle the font size.
I'm hoping by the time we get close to do tablet/mobile the themes for V6 are ready.
