Top Bar Menu

Would be interested in hearing/seeing if anyone has created a different top bar menu than the default menu and how this was done.

I have looked into this some but ran into a couple of issues and for the time-being instead went with the default top bar.

I have tried a) vertical html/css menu (left panel) and 2) horizontal html/css menu (header) and it´s possible to get a nice e.g. vertical menu but again there are issues. Some of the issues are:

limitation in menu dropdowns etc.
FOUT i.e. delay before e.g. menu images are displayed (Read more: http://www.paulirish.com/2009/fighting-the-font-face-fout/).
Not possible to e.g. start a process and not display the "Loading" indicator which in some cases just aint pretty 🙂
etc. Can´t remember but there were more issues.

Currently I am using a couple of custom menu items (not full menu) in my header and that works great.

Thanks for this. Are you able to change the color of the default menu?

I can share my experience with this as well, I like to play (can you tell 🙂).

I don´t know how comfortable you are working with CSS? I have played around with the menu bar and it is possible to change color etc. of the bar BUT this unfortunately also change the color of many other areas throughout Aware IM e.g. bars top/bottom in forms and queries. I suppose it´s possible to rework/rewrite the css so the top bar use 1 css class and all other bars use another class but I haven´t tried it. I have done a couple of other changes with theme specific css and it SEEMS as though it´s possible to do whatever you want but it´s a bit of work and some css skills are required.

Thanks - with CSS I would say I am an intermediate. I'll do some experimentation a bit to see what I can come up with.
