DISPLAY DOCUMENT in 5.8

Hello,

After upgraded in 5.8 on ALL old APPS where I use simple "DISPLAY DOCUMENT NameWordTemplate" -in browser first appears an empty popup window (with a close button on footer), after that on top of it appears the document which I want to download.
After I download the document I have to close the popup window to continue the work.

How can I rid of this empty popup window?

I am getting the exact same thing. What is the point of the pop up window? Have I got to change something to make this display the document?

An update to the above:

When I run an MS word document I get the empty popup as described above. If I run a PDF (report) the PDF is displayed in the popup. However, the scroll bar on the right is mostly hidden (the pop up isn't big enough).

Try turning your pop-up blocker ON. I think I read somewhere - or maybe it was in the video, that the new window is meant to overcome the fact that with the blocker on the users got very confused because they couldn't see the docs.

I've had many a support call on that one. So now, if I read it correctly, end users will be able to keep the blocker on and still see the documents.

Note to support though, it would be good - and for the benefit of users who already have the blocker OFF if we didn't get two windows.

The documents are now displayed in the Aware IM-managed popup window, NOT in the browser-managed popup windows.

This way Aware IM becomes totally independent of whether popup blockers are on or not. This was a problem in previous versions for some customers.

Now, Aware IM does not know how a particular browser will handle a particular document type. So it always displays a popup window first and then lets the browser "display a document" in this window. For some combinations of browsers/document types, the browser just downloads the documents, so the popup window seems unnecessary (yet it doesn't hurt to have one - it was the same with the browser managed windows, by the way). For other combinations the browser displays the document inside the window.

I think a better approach on this was to add the ability to use or not the new feature, not eliminate the old one at all. I don't say that new feature is not good, it's perfect, but I know my users and lots of them asked me to change back the way it was before...
If also MS Word Documents can be displayed inside this popup it's ok, we'll manage.If not, I am sad...🙁

If MS Word is installed on the client's machine it should display inside the window ( at least in IE). It's up to the browser and to the client's setup how a particular type of document is displayed.

There is absolutely no reason to have both the old and the new way of displaying documents - they are not different at all (except that the old way had a problem with popup blockers and had too many support issues)

My thought was that it´s better to have this option so we can choose which onme to use if there are cases with documents etc. where the new pop up doesn´t work as it should

I have tried lots of combinations of browsers, versions, windows versions I can't seem to get any MS Word document to open in the awareim popup! It always downloads it which leaves an empty window to close. PDFs always display in the popup which is good.
A big problem I'm having is with users of IE and when a document is displayed as part of a process that requires further user interaction after the document is displayed. A popup that says 'Click ok to continue' appears behind the empty document popup but the empty document popup is disabled by the 'Click ok to continue' popup. This completely locks up the UI and the only way to escape is to logout and log in again.

This is not the case. Having MS Word installed on client does not cause the document to be displayed in the popup. Explaining to a user ins and outs of how to get a browser to use a certain program or add on for a file type is way more complicated than having to explain how to allow pop ups!

In my experience it wasn't the same with browser managed windows. I never used to get an empty pop up that needed to be closed?
I think it does hurt to have one, I've now had loads of calls asking why an empty window now appears. I've never had a single call complaining of pop up blockers or not being able to download a document (I think most people are smart enough to work this one out for themselves).

I have to argue that they are different.
If there was a way to make sure other documents display in the popup like PDF seem to (and I don't mean by messing with the browser settings on client machine) then this would be a great feature.
If there was a way to close the empty window automatically or suppress it somehow then this would be fine too.
If not then I would really love to be able to switch it off and revert to the old way.

Support, please consider this. My users (and me I'm afraid) just don't like it.

We also use a lot of MS Word Templates we tested this feature with IE, Chrome, Firefox (these are the browsers used by our users). We are unable to open the MS Word inside the pop-up window, either the MS Office is installed on the client machine.
Users requests to give them the old way of opening this kind of documents...I don't know what to do !!!
Please help!!!

We have just tested this in IE 10 with MS Word installed on the client machine (and on the server obviously).

The behavior is EXACTLY the same in 5.7 and 5.8 - Word document IS shown in 5.8. When we ask Aware IM to display a document in 5.8 it shows a popup window and IE prompts whether to save or open the document. If you say "Open" MS Word starts up and the document is shown.

We use the Create Document operation from a form of the object. The operation shows a document template stored in the configuration. IE version is 10. Are you doing anything differently? If so, what exactly are you doing and which version of IE are you using? Did you test exactly the same thing in 5.7? Are you sure it works differently there?

By the way, Chrome downloads the documents in both 5.7 and 5.8. So as far as we are concerned, we can see no difference in behaviour between 5.7 and 5.8. Again unless you are doing something different.

Printing of HTML document has been overlooked here. The HTML documents in AwareIM pop-up cannot be printed. Browser pop-up the prints only whats in the pop-up window, Awareim pop-up prints the whole damn browser page including the window.

In any case, IMO a browser based app should not be restricted by non browser based modal windows only.

There definitely has to be an option to display the document in an aware modal OR browser popup. End of story.

To display in Aware IM managed popup window (5.8-) use DISPLAY DOCUMENT:
