My attribute Invoice.AmountReceived is has two rules.

Rule 1 - protect attribute from editing.

If
Invoice.Paid<>'Yes' OR Invoice.Payment_Type<>'Cash'
Then
PROTECT Invoice.AmountReceived FROM ALL EXCEPT System

The EXCEPT System option is ignored.

My 2nd RULE defines the Invoice.AmountReceived value.

In the log, 2nd RULE this value is calculated properly but then down the track the RULE 1 is executed with this message:

-Access to attribute AmountReceived of business object Invoice is denied. Restoring old value 0.0

This is the case with READ PROTECT as well.

The attribute remains PROTECTED from the System.

SYSTEM is when an attribute is being changed by a rule. If an attribute is being changed by the user, it's not SYSTEM. So make sure this is the case. This has been tested many times.

Yes, the value of Invoice.AmountReceived is defined via a rule (RULE 2).

RULE 2.

If

Invoice.Paid='Yes' AND Invoice.Payment_Type<>'Cash' AND Invoice.InvoiceTotal IS DEFINED

Then

Invoice.AmountReceived=Invoice.InvoiceTotal

Without RULE 1 (protect attribute except system) this value is assigned properly and displayed on the form.

But with RULE 1, and with EXCEPT System in place it is calculated & but access is denied.

The user does not enter the value manually, its done by RULE 2.

If an attribute is being changed by the user, it's not SYSTEM.

The attribute is PROTECTed from editing (the field is readonly) by RULE 1, so it cannot changed by the user anyway.

Why is the attribute PROTECTED from a RULE that changes its value?

Hi,

Want to add one more issue in respect of ACTION READ PROTECT

I use READ PROTECT action to show/hide another field which is Text Field

I also use same on the list box it works fine but when i use checkbox or table of items (Grid) it does not work.

I unable to show/hide Checkbox List and Table of Items.

Is this a bug or limitation.

Yes, it's a bug caused by the OR condition in the PROTECT rule. The bug will be fixed in the next release. In the meantime split it into two rules as a workaround.

Hi Support,

problem still persist, component checkbox list does not hide/show when READ PROTECT is used.

You cannot hide checkbox list or a table of items dynamically - this is a limitation.

I'm getting ACCESS DENIED again. BO.Attribute NOT PROTECTED from SYSTEM. Why is it denied and revering back to old value?

Adding action PROTECT myBO.PlainText FROM ALL EXCEPT System to the agenda.

Executing action PROTECT myBO.PlainText FROM ALL EXCEPT System from rules of object myBO
-Access to attribute PlainText of business object myBO is denied. Restoring old value undefined

The value of PlainText is defined (and must be) and the attribute is PROTECTED by rule but NOT from System, yet it is treated as if it is protected from System.

Since the PlainText attribute is required (Value must be provided ticked), the system makes it undefined (denied access? why?) and I get the error and I can't create the BO.

Steps

Login in Test mode as Administrator
Click on >>NEW ORDER<< in menu
For 'Is User Correct?' select NO
Leave User (select One) as blank
Tick' Add New User?'
Both Correct Contact & Select One (User) attributes are PROTECTED (Not from System) from editing. The Attribute is still DEFINED as 'NO'
Click 'Next' to create BO
Error 'Value of IsUserCorrect must be provided. Well, it is defined.

Appreciate if anyone can take 5 minutes to test this and agree with me or not.

Simply checking the 'Do not use anywhere else' option in the dynamic rule has solved this. 🙂
