Ampersand problem with Drop Down plain text attribute

A choice containing the '&' in the plain text dropdown attribute is rendered on the browser form as the word '&'

Eg.

Choice: Salt & Pepper

Renders in dropdown lists by the browser as:

Salt & Pepper

I can confirm that this issue is occurring.

Support - any update on a fix for this?

(We want to roll v5.7 out to our production servers, but will wait until this is fixed)

Why cannot you just replace ampersand with "and"?

Hi,

One of the lists that uses ampersand contains 'Mr. & Mrs.' It is printed onto many documents and changing that to 'Mr. and Mrs.' would, in my opinion, look a little unprofessional! (It's a British thing I think!!)

More importantly I have to export contents of some BO's to csv that then get uploaded to a government website (registration information). Thier systems require an ampersand and will throw an error if I use and.

I might add that when a document is merged from aware the 'Mr. & Mrs' appears as it should. It's only when it's shown inside aware on a form that it displays incorrectly. This all used to work and display fine in previous versions (before build 1671)

Users can define their own lists, and will often use & to save space, so it is a support issue too.

Some examples where it can would used:

In registered Company names e.g. Smith & Jones Consulting;
If space is very limited;
Logo or slogan contains &;
Academic references; e.g. (Grant & Smith, 1998-)

Ampersand is not the only HTML entity having this issue:
