BO is read protected against my will

I'm on 1599.

I have several identical BOs that are reference attributes of the same owner object. Some are doing as they are told with access control and some are giving read-only access in spite of the access control settings. I believe I have checked everything.

The access permissions are set correctly and I'm logging in under the access level configured.
The attributes are not read protected in the parent object.
I've set the access permissions to Full Access for the entire object but the entire object seems to be read-only.
The window does not display the Save button as would be normal for read-only access, but that's not how it is configured.
I rebooted everything.

Are there any changes/improvements in later releases that may affect this?

The 'Calculated' checkbox may be ticked on some of the objects.

Thanks. I meant to say that I had checked that as well. That's not it I'm afraid.

Updating to 1608 has had no improvements here.

I need to add to the checklist: All items are called up in Edit mode, none in View mode.
