When using a custom view to display a reference list within a form, and you update the reference list via an Edit operation, the reference list does not refresh automatically. To overcome it I had to put an auto refresh on for reference list object on the form.

The behaviour of auto-refresh should be identical between 5.3 and 5.5. Are you saying it's not?

It is true, after update to 5.5 the reference list is not updated automatically.

Yes, as it turns out it was an intentional change in 5.5 - previous automatic refresh caused too many problems. So now you need to do add to auto-refresh explicitly.
