Reference List Dropdowns in Mobile

Hi Support,

We have a reference attribute being used on a mobile compatible form which currently references a BO with 1200 records, it causes massive slow down on mobiles performance to bring back all records in one go using the 'Fetch all records at once' option - and when it does return the list, it seems to cap it at 1000, not displaying the final 200.

The option of 'Fetch records dynamically as the user types' seems to act the same as above. You can't write in the field, it just brings back the list when you click on it.

Defining a page size seems to have a bug, no matter what number you define as the page size, it'll only bring back the first 25 records - and no paging option.

Could we please get the 'Fetch records dynamically as the user types' option working please, as it's unusable at the moment in it's current format once you start to reference a larger number of records.

"Fetch records dynamically" option is not supported in the mobile version. If "fetch all records" option is too slow (i.e. you have too many records for this), then you need to use a grid instead of a dropdown

Hi Rod,

I hit this brick wall a while ago. The only real option I found was to create a mobile specific process that used pick one or more from and prompted the user to enter a partial surname (in my case)

I did some checking and the HTML overhead in downloading even just 150 records was horrendous, taking 10-12 seconds to fill the list.

Problem then is if the user clicks in the form field too soon before the download is complete, ,it will freeze the download and it won't start again

Unfortunately grid and the "Add" button is not an option for us as we must have a "custom implementation" on the Add (we need to have a query and filter it) and the custom implementation button doesn't work either (I think it is either a bug or perhaps a limitation of mobile).

Is it possible to get "Fetch records dynamically" option supported on mobile?

The problem is that otherwise we have to build custom processes to search and find and insert for every ref attribute - which is fine for when there are 1000+ entries (it makes good UI sense) but if there is just 10 entries then it is much more user friendly to have a drop down. The trouble is the number of entries will vary for each user, so to cover our bases we HAVE to make it a search/find/insert.

I would ad my voice to this request for "fetch records Dynamically"

The problem is we are "Nearly there" on so many fronts - but nearly there doesn't quite do it.

I would be perfectly happy using the standard dev tools for iPad apps except that. the finger movements for stretch and shrink don't work (they mess up all the window sizes. That wouldn't be a problem if We could have a CSS that gave us bigger font sizes in lists and menus (a la the mobile App) but there isn't one (unless other developers know of one) I could then redesign some of my VP's.

but if Fetch records dynamically worked in the mobile app - that would give me the best of all worlds.

There some other small gotchas in the mobile app, If you have several tabs, each showing different lists, you can sometimes lose the refresh buttons when moving between the tabs. and sometimes when you open a record for editing in a tab, when you finish and close the record, sometimes you don't get the list back correctly. A simple reload of the VP usually restores everything so it's not a major show stopper
