Reports - non English Characters not being generated

If there is an attribute with a non English character stored in it eg 阿嫂打隧道 then it will not appear on any PDF documents - it just appears blank.

(Is there some kind of encoding on the report writer I need to set?)

You need the corresponding TTF font that has this character. You need to add this font to the report.

FYI - for any others that are working with Chinese/Asian characters.

You must load the TTF font to each and every report you design.
Note that many Asian fonts are TTC formats (ie collections) which from our attempts on the Aware report designer did not work, it must be TTF
MS Standard Asian font is SimSun. This font will not work on a Linux server, finding a nice (sans seriff) Asian font for Linux that is .ttf format is not that easy. We settled on wqy-zenhei-font-ttf which you can Google and download and does install ok.
Note that Asian fonts are BIG files (eg 8-14 MB each), and this will push the size of your report/bsv up massively if you are loading lots of fonts to test. The lesson is to practice in a dummy bsv, then chose just one Asian font and stick to it.
