Trying to change an attribute of type Number to type Plain Text I get an error message when trying to save. The configuration log is as follows

Update,

Can add new attributes to the BO
Can change Number attributes to Plain Text if the original did not have the "Value must be provided" box ticked

Cannot change number to plain text if "Value must be provided" box ticked

This of course may all be coincidence

Fixed Manually - for the benefit of others, here's how.

1) backed up the database

2) deleted three number attributes that were exhibiting the same problem
3) created three new plain text attributes with same name, same spelling
4) tested and published

Note - at this point the data in the three fields were lost

5) restored the table from the backup

Note at this point the restore reverted the table fields back to integer

6) Using MySQLAdmin, manually changed the three fields from INTEGER to VARCHAR(10)

Tested the app. All OK

Of course, this hasn't resolved the issue of HOW or WHY the fault occured so that it can be prevented in the future but at least I know it wasn't catastrophic and can sleep easier for that
