"Allow users to add and edit choices" - deleting a

I have a drop down, it has Static Choices (about 5 options typed in), then I have "Allow users to add and edit choices" ticked.

Problem is when someone on the front end clicks the icon to edit the choices and then deletes all the options. There is no way to get the choices to show again.

There is no "Add" button on the front end. And if you add more options in the back and publish it they still don't show.

Am I missing something?
