I've suddenly started to get an outofmemory condition when trying to save a BS within the config tool. I've tried everything to get rid of it including doubling memory for the tool itself. It wont export as well. I fear it is a corruption within the BSV itself but not sure how to find it. It is a very large BS but I haven't had problems up to now. No issues with all the other BSV's I have.

Are there any limitations on number of tables, queries etc?
Is there any limitation on the number of changes the SAVE can handle at anyone time? Not sure how o tackle it from here....any ideas appreciated.

By "saving" do you mean exporting into a file or saving to a server? In either case you may need to increase memory not only to the Configuration Tool but to the Aware IM Server and especially JBoss.

It's memory problem only. Once you have sufficient memory for different components, it will be fine.

Both fail with the outofmemory error. So exporting or saving from within the Config tool uses AwareIm server and JBOss as well? I have just increased them again and it still crashes. Will try a couple more times.

Yes, both use JBoss and Aware IM Server. Keep increasing the memory for all 3 of them. Don't forget to restart Aware IM once you do it

If Out of Memory message is in the output of the Aware IM server, it's either JBoss or server. If it's in the output of the Config. Tool, it's the tool.

Mmm still a problem. Suggest I send you a copy of the bsv to check out? Do I need to buy a support ticket for you to do that?

The BSV loads and exports perfectly fine in our system. We are pretty sure that the BSV is not corrupt.

Most probably you still have a memory problem. Maybe your server just ran out of physical memory and allocating more memory for Aware IM has no effect.

Where is the Out of Memory message?

From the configuration tool output. Can you tell me what you set your memory settings to then so I may replicate here and try again?

It imports ok for me but its when I try to save it or test it or export it that I get the memory issue.

Oh sorry one last question. After changing memory settings for the config tool do I need to restart AwareIM as it does not prompt me to do so as it does for changing the other three memory settings.

You were right (as always)! I just added another 1GB of physical memory to the server, rebooted and allocated more memory to the config tool and all is fine now. Thank you for your assistance and the ticket may be closed.

Given the thread, I am curious to know the extent of your application. Can you advise what is the size of the exported BSV and can you give some general metrics on the scope of your application?

I have a development machine/server and a production server. Development machine is high-end notebook with 8GB ram. Production server is hosted Windows virtual server with 512MB.

Naturally I'm interested to know if your predicament awaits me.

The exported BSV is 1100 KB. The BSV has approx 160 tables and as many queries and processes. In the end I needed to up the memory allocation for the config tool to 1GB. This is the largest BS I have developed and usually I can get away with much less ram for the tool.

just for info - if it helps,

I have a hosted VPS with 2Gb ram.
Exported BSV = 1773Kb

Memory settings:
AwareIM Server = 512Mb
Tomcat = 256Mb
JBOSS = 256Mb
Config Tool = 128Mb

No problems experienced

I also have my MySQL key buffer set to 64Mb - don't know whether this would make a difference

Mr RocketRod,

When you were experiencing the out of memory error, was your config tool refusing to update the business space? As I'm currently experiencing mine 'thinking' for a while then 'timing out' as it were.

How exactly did you upgrade the memory allocation? Just by going into Control Panel > Settings > General tab > Memory > and assigning the memory values there?

As I've upgraded mine to use 512MB for all options and I'm still experiencing the timeout issue. So I'm not sure if memory is my problem, or if I'm just assigning the memory wrong, or if I have a whole new problem.

Any help would be muchly appreciated.

Yes it was. You should see a memory error in the config log. Yes I changed the memory settings within the Control panel . I'm still investigating my issue as it reappears every now and then.

I've checked out the logs and am getting the OutOfMemory error in the config log.

Seems we have the same issue. If you manage to fix it any chance you could post on here please? I'll do likewise.

I cut back a bit of the deadwood in my bsv and it happens less frequently but it still creeps up every now and again.
