Data Export Problem

I created a query to display selected attributes. I used two "Ask at run time" conditions.

I select "Export" from the standard options menu and specify the query. The "Ask at run time" condition dialog is not presented but all the attributes of the object for the query are displayed for selection. I select what attributes I want to export and change a date format from "MM/dd/yyyy" to "dd-MMM-yy". I would think only the attributes selected for the query would be presented. Can't really find a detailed description of this in the User Guide.

I do get results in a .csv file but the date formats don't change.

If I run the query standalone the "Ask at run time" dialog does present and the query selects the right instances and displays the selected attributes in order specified. Can query result output text be modified?

Further trial and error reveals that the "Ask at run time" condition dialog does not appear but the query is run with odd results.

FIND NSCPers WHERE NSCPers.UnitCode = ?'Unit Code' AND NSCPers.DateUpdate=?'DateUpdated' AND (NSCPers.MemberStatus = 'P' OR NSCPers.MemberStatus='I' OR NSCPers.MemberStatus='R')

The 'Unit Code' and 'DateUpdated' are not asked for and the results are all instances that meet the 'MemberType' condition regardless of 'UnitCode" or 'DateUpdated'

I expected that using a query as the input for the 'Export' function would only show the returned query attributes for selection for 'Export' but it shows all attributes of NSCPers to select from. Frequently selecting one object 'deselects' another and I have to repeat the selection and carefully scroll through the all the attributes to make sure the attributes checked stay checked.

I want to export some attributes of selected instances of an object to a .csv file to be used with a label printing application.

Using "Export" which appears in the operational mode menu under "Standard" I'm following the "Export" dialog. I select "Query" vice "Business Object" and pick a query I have configured. The query contains two "Ask at run time" conditions. If I just run the query from the menu I'm asked to input the "Ask at run time" values. Using the query for the export process that does not happen and that part of the query condition is ignored.

It also displays all attributes of the object for export selection, as if I had selected a business object, instead of just the attributes selected for display in the query.

The Export process does not seem to operate correctly and there is no where I can find that adequately explains how to use it.

Yes I have. I've found an inexpensive and very versatile application that will accept a .csv file as input. There is no need for Word or mail merge etc. and you can be very precise in positioning the data you want printed on any standard size label of any custom size and page configuration you want.

If I could just get the Export process to use the query properly this would be a very simple solution to printing labels, ID cards, business cards - you name it. I'm sure there are many here that would like it.

I just want to export to the .csv file attributes of selected instances of a business object. You can just click on the "export button" of a query result and get the result in a .csv file but you can't reformat dates.

Using the "Export" function you can specify an object to use or a query and the process gives you the opportunity to select attributes and format them for the export. But the query does not function properly in that process.

I have. That still doesn't address why selecting a query for the Export function in the Standard Menu doesn't work properly.

If it did I could print ID-Cards with re-formated dates in two simple steps.

Execute the Export function
Use the output .csv as the input for the ID print.

The application is "Label Maker Pro" by Belltech. You pick the fields you want from the .csv, change font or size or color, and position by dragging the field around to precisely where you want it. There's an easy to use scale and you can align and size groups of elements - (top, bottom, left, right, same width, same height, etc). It has a very easy to follow animated tutorial - just "follow the bouncing ball". I use the label application for ID cards because each card is unique - names, dates, unit codes, etc. but definitely not the standard name, address, city, zip, format. I could even incorporate a photo and will at some future date. Business card systems print pages of the same card and most address label systems stick to the standard name and address format and only allow gross line and column positioning.

I just need help navigating the Export menu function correctly or knowing that a fix is needed and wait for it.
