Well this is not a solution. This could aid others
When we are Platform testing we always install these products to gauge performance across many OS's with Varied Browsers on the Client level. HW/SW as you can imagine have exponential variables.
1) Firefox has these add-ons to confirm Speed to browser - and speed of app to browser
Firebug
Yslow
2) Also on client we have a clear knowledge of Running Processes with
Process Explorer

3) Firewalls and any EPS (End Point Security)
3.1) We confirm that there are exceptions if need be on the Users Profile and the temp folders (dangerous but in testing we allow this)
3.2) No ports are blocked, used or held by other system resources
3.3) all IDS (intrusion detection systems) are disabled or commented out so to not disturb testing
4) Sniffer's (LANShark and or SNORT)
We will also identify the traffic to understand best methods for shaping and identify security threats for our clients

Now after the above testing we take 10 VMware Images of general population machines with all of the bloat wear and installed user apps.
And test in a real world scenario
