V4.7 (Build 1229) & Firefox 3.5.2 issue

There appears to be an issue with Firefox 3.5.2 with V4.7 (build 1229). After log in it get stuck on LOADING PAGE. PLEASE WAIT....

No problem opening the same app with I.E 6 or Safari 4

FF 3.5.2 logs in fine for me.

Have you rebooted, just in case?

The mighty reboot do resolve a lot of issues but not this time.

I am running on OS X 10.5.8.

I verified the issue with OS X 10.5.7 and FF 3.5.2

Firefox for Mac appears to be a bit buggy still and it does not seem to recognize the compressed version of our Javascript file. As a workaround you can do the following:

1) Rename the file AwareIM.app/Contents/Resources/Java/Tomcat/webapps/AwareIM/aware_ext/aware.js to aware_min.js
2) Rename the file AwareIM.app/Contents/Resources/Java/Tomcat/webapps/AwareIM/aware_ext/aware_full.js to aware.js
3) Refresh the browser

BTW: Not sure if this helps or not but FF version 3.5.3 came out yesterday.

Hi, We have just began some App testing on different platforms and noticed
that we cannot Load our Application.

OS: 10.4.X, Browser: Firefox 3.5.3, AwareIM: v. 1246

We did make the changes that this post suggests but cannot seem to get a connection. Nothing urgent but worth noting

I have only experience this with my MAC /FireFox users. It appears that FF 3.5.2 and 3.5.3 have issues loading java scripts. This is complete a FireFox issue .... but Aware support gave us a work around above

Did you try this?
I did and it work straight up - if it didn't work for you try clearing the cache and/or restarting the Aware server.

We thought it was a VMWare image which was causing the issues.

But you were Correct, we did not clear the Cache after

I tested this myself and sure enough, Firefox on Mac OS 10 would not get past the "Logging in" screen. So I renamed the two files as stated above. Of course I stopped the Aware IM server to do so. The result is that I can now log in but there's no database connectivity - no presentation of data anywhere.

Firefox and Safari were both as above, but Chrome was fine. Yes, I cleared the cache on both browsers.

Any other thoughts?

I presume clearing the cache stated above refers to the cache on the client browser, right?

This is a different issue altogether. My guess is that you renamed your Aware IM folder and changed the aware.js as a result. You need to make this change in another file as well.

I'm sorry, I don't quite follow that response. You're right that I've changed my AwareIM folder name but you say I need to make this change in another file as well. That was a cliff-hanger.

So by changing the AwareIM folder name I changed these file names (in terms of their full path spec). So was I correct to rename the files? Should I change the names back? Is there something else for me to do?

Can you please re-engage on this issue? As noted above, at this point, I can only get a good result on Mac OS via Chrome. I otherwise can't get past the login screen or get a screen to display data as I said above.

I note that your demo applications display in iOS on Safari, but my application does not. I don't care about iOS but can you please provide a some information on my issue? I don't mind if certain browsers on a certain O/S can cut it, but I do need to know for certain what works and what doesn't. As always, your response is highly appreciated.

There are two files aware.js and aware_full.js. The first one represents the compressed version of the other one. At runtime only one file is used - usually the compressed one. However, FF under MAC for some reason cannot handle the compressed version. The workaround, therefore, is to use the second file - the full version.

To use this file you need to rename it to aware.js because Aware IM looks for this name.

So this is all good. Now, if you rename the web application folder you need to MODIFY THE CURRENT file to rename "AwareIM" prefix in this file with your folder name. Normally you do it in the compressed version. If, however, you replace the compressed version with the full version, you need to perform the same change in the full version as well - i.e. not only rename the full version to aware.js, but open it for editing, search for "AwareIM" and replace it with the name of the folder. If you don't do this and just rename the file, your login under FF on Mac will work, but you will not see any data.

Old thread, but we still have this problem (Linux and Mac using FF).

The fix works, just a question, is there a performance hit in doing this fix? i.e. are we slowing our users down?

There is no performance hit - just the initial download hit. If the file is not in the browser cache yet, the initial download of this file takes longer than the compressed version. Once the file has been downloaded it works with the same speed as the other one
