Form Operations

Hi,

Can someone enlighten me about form operations ?

No matter what I do, I can't get the form operation toolbar to appear on any of my forms.

Do form operations only apply to the default edit forms of objects ?

Can form operations such as 'Start Process' run processes which are related to reference attributes of the in context object being edited by a form ?

Is there something special which I need to configure so that my form operation buttons display ?

The only reason an operation will not display is if you defined "applicability conditions" that do not hold or if there are access level restrictions for your operation (for example, if a process that it starts is not available to the user).

Also, operations are only displayed for a form of the existing object, not a new object.

Thanks for the replies.

I have a very similar situation as Ernest mentions in his previous post. I am trying to run a process from a BO's edit form.

I know I can add a custom button to my form to make this happen, or even just some html, but that would definitely not be as neat as a Form Operation button. I accept support's position on this too and appreciate the philosophy behind it - I just wish it were different 🙂

My solution will be to allow the user to invoke my process from a Top Bar menu item. On reflection, my process (which is to view the change history for instances of a particular BO) will most likely not be a frequently used feature, but an important one just the same. So the process's demotion to a menu item will be more aesthetically sensible too.

Following is a summary of how I believe EDIT and VIEW actions work when run from a process:

EDIT -- Opens in modal form. Form will not include Operation links to run additional processes.

VIEW -- Opens in full screen form. Form will include Operation links to run additional processes. If an Operation is invoked after the user has change a value on the form but before clicking SAVE, then the user will be asked if they want to save changes before proceeding.

Hi Tom,

When we create new business object then it shows in new tab and after when we click on button it will show the edit form of the last created object.

Like Currently I am using process in which i call ENTER new ACTION which show the creation form on the modal dialog box which is little annoying.

And also is it possible to check that whether a Business Object Tab is already open or not, like if user clicks on the business object 2-3 times it open the New Object in new tabs...
