Well, this means that the port is blocked. We have seen it many times - people reporting that their firewalls were off, but there was still something blocking their ports (usually some anti-virus software etc).
You need to check the availability of ports outside of Aware IM and confirm that the port is open - there are many utilities that can do this. Alternatively configure Aware IM to run on the standard port 80 (provided that there is no other web server using it). To do this open the file server.xml in AwareIM/Tomcat/conf directory, search for 8080 and replace it with 80.
