Special characters not showing

I'm evaluating the 4.0 version and I'm finding that labels or data that include special international characters don't show correctly except in menus.

For example, if, in a business object, I define a field "Año" (year), it shows as "AÃ±o".

This is independent of where I host the application (i have tested with Windows, Mac and Linux) and independent of the browser used to show it (Firefox, IE, Safari).

What gives?.

After further investigation it turned out that the previous response was wrong. There is simply a bug in version 4.0 that we now found and fixed. The patch will be available within a day.

It works for me now, under Windows with the build 1137

There was a problem whereby AJAX requests coming from the client and encoded in UTF-8 were decoded as UTF-16 on the server. As a result any unicode characters entered into the forms were not saved properly. This problem has been fixed in build 1137. If you are experiencing a different problem please describe it in more details.

That's 1137 with MySQL on Linux. It fails the same as 1135 as I reported above.

What's your Linux encoding? If it is UTF-8 try to change it to ISO-88591-1.

Can you also try it on Windows if you have a Windows machine?

It was: LANG=es_ES.UTF-8

I have changed it to: LANG=es_ES.ISO-8859-1

and now everything shows as a "?".

This is definitely the Linux encoding problem. I am sure Windows will be OK. We will check out Linux and let you know the correct encoding.

Here you are:

Linux Ubuntu 8.04

$ sudo localedef -f ISO-8859-1 -i es_ES es_ES.ISO-8859-1
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales
$ export LANG=es_ES.ISO-8859-1
$ startAwareIM.sh

One thing to note: ISO-8859-1 encoding does not support the euro sign (€). For this and other reasons you should support UTF-8.

OK, Linux problems should be fixed now in build 1138 available for download. It is fully UTF-8 now.
