Buttons don't show text in Configuration tool

Hi support,

in version 4.0 (Build 1143 and previous) the buttons in the configuration tool do not show their text labels.

Example:

In a business object where you normally have three buttons on the right side to add attributes, remove attributes or edit attributes the buttons only show three points

(...)

This also happens with lots of other buttons.
Sometimes the text is cut off and show only part of the label:

Example:
Form Section lower right part of the screen where you can insert and arrange fields show the following buttons:
(E...) should be (Edit)
(In...) should be (Insert)
(D...) should be (Delete)
(...)
(S...)
(C...)

(Pr...) should be (Preview)

Therefore it is very difficult to learn more about version 4.0... Its more try and error (and remember what button is where...)

My Environment:

MAC OS X 10.5.5

Please have a look at that.

This is strange. It works fine on our Mac system. There must be something special about your version of Java so that the default font has a different size (you also had problems with Tomcat 5.5) - what is your Java version again?

Are you saying that it was OK in version 3.0? (we haven't changed anything here). Which version of Java are you using for version 3.0?

I had no problems with version 3.0 (I had the same java version in the beginning and later it was changed due to a Apple update to 1.5)
During the problems with Tomcat I changed it back to 1.4.2

By the way,

I just changed to 1.5 but still the same problem.

I also restored the old 3.0 version and it has the same problems now....

May be it is related to the latest Apple Java update? (there was an update last week)

Yes, it must be the update. We will try to update ourselves...

Yes, it's the update - other applications are experiencing the same problems. See this one, for example:

Can you change back to the previous release? Can you go to Java Preferences and check if the previous release is listed there? If so, can you change the order, so it is first?

For now we will sit on the fences with this release - I am sure Apple should issue a fix to this. Apparently there are other issues as well.

Hi support,

I changed it back to the old Java version and everything works fine!

Here now exactly what I did:

start the following application:
/Applications/Utilities/Java/Java Preferences.app

In the "General" tab you see the Java Versions for applications (lower frame):

J2SE 5.0 32-bit
Java SE 6 64-bit
J2SE 5.0 64-bit
J2SE 1.4.2 32-bit

Drag and Drop "J2SE 1.4.2 32-bit" to the first line in order to change the order.

Here the result:

J2SE 1.4.2 32-bit
J2SE 5.0 32-bit
Java SE 6 64-bit
J2SE 5.0 64-bit

From now on EVERY Java Application will use the Java versions in this order.

Apple seemed to have released the new vesrion of Java (build 1.5.0_07) which seems OK now. The faulty one was 1.5.0_06

The issue with the buttons in Application Tools is happening on Mac OS X 10.6.1, Aware IM version 1426.

In Java Preferences - Application, you only have Java SE 6 - 64bit and 32bit. The system won't let you install older versions.
