How to back up BSV's automatically?

I currently have set up a backup on a clients server to automatically backup the AwareIM database (MySQL), dump it to a local directory, mount a network share that gets remotely backed up, rsync the dumped database, unmount the share until the following day, when it happens all over again.

Is there a way I can do something similar to my clients BSV files? When these are uploaded, where are they stored on the AwareIM server?

In the future please post messages like this to the General Discussions forum, since this is not a problem report.

You do not need to automatically back up BSV files - backing up the database is enough. BSV files is just another way of storing configuration information (especially useful when you transfer configurations). Aware IM does not use BSV files internally - it only uses them when the BSV file is explicitly imported. The imported data is then stored in the database.

From what I understand, the database holds the data you input into the application that you may develop. The .bsv file holds the configuration data for the application itself, like what fields there are, the operation of the application for things like exporting or emailing documents.

Is this correct?

Am I to assume that if an AwareIM installation fails due to say for example, a hardware failure, the only backup you have is the database. I'm understanding this to mean that your application basically disappears, unless of course you export your business space manually.

Am I understanding this correctly? AwareIM is still something new to me so I'm trying to get my head around it all.

No, this is not correct. Aware IM stores BOTH operational data and configuration information in the database. The BSV file is an additional way of storing configuration data. A user can choose to export configuration into a file in order to import it later into the system running on another machine, for example.

In this respect Aware IM is no different from any other system that uses a database. If there's a hardware failure - it is up to a database (and your backup). So if you backup the database you will be safe.

I see, thank you for clearing that up. I just want to understand so I can have all my bases covered in a disaster/recovery scenario.

Forgot to mention that you need to backup DocTemplates directory as well - this is where document templates are stored (this is the only piece of data stored outside the database)
