I used the trial version and developed a very nice application in a remarkable short time. I subsequently purchased the system but do to business travel and other constraints was unable to use it immediately. I want to use it now and clear out what I've done before. I can't seem to accomplish this. I've created an entirely new business space but it has integrity problems immediately. 13 involving menu items in the visual perspective of the administrator "not supported by the current product configuration". This is the 3.0 personal edition.

Well, the message seems to be pretty clear - you are using a BSV that has features not supported in the Personal Edition. Most likely, you developed something in the evaluation version that corresponds to the Professional Edition and then try to use this BSV in the Personal Edition.

You either need to re-develop the application without these features or upgrade to one of the higher level products.

That was a fairly curt reply and I'll chalk it up to the early hour.

That said a little history. I downloaded and used your 2.3 evaluation version for 30 days and created an application with it. Then on 10/24/07 I purchased the personal developer 3.0 version and installed it. I did not actually use it until yesterday. It would not run and produced the integrity errors listed below. I created a new shell BSV with no user input and got the same integrity errors. None of the mentioned menu items were created or even touched by me - that's whats there on "Create New Version". I don't believe your allowing clients to use an evaluation version for 30 days, develop an application, and then selling them a version that won't run the application they've developed without so much as a warning. There must be something amiss here.

A couple of question until Suport comes on line.

I purchased the personal developer 3.0 version

1- Do you have the Personal version or Developer Version?

I created a new shell BSV with no user input

2- What do you mean by this? What is in the BSV? Did you create the BSV 100% from your 3.0 version?

3- From your list of integrity error, it looks like those menu items are things you can easily delete from the menu of your application. Do you need help in how to delete those items?

I purchased what was called AwareIM Personal Edition 3.0. It worries me that I don't even see that in the product listing now.

I simply right click on "Business Space" in the configuration tool tree, click "new", supply a name and a description, and a new business space is created with all the default structure.

It is a remarkable development environment but the distressing thing is if what I purchased and installed over the "evaluation" version has crippled the 30 days work I did with the evaluation than I think I've been royally had. Nobody, and I had many email exchanges with Sandra Koslovski during the 30 trial.

Have you tried to delete the menu options that the integrity checker is telling you are a problem?

I did that and there are no visual perspectives now and I can't add any - not supported by current product configuration. Has to have been something wrong with the original download of 3.0

You don't want to delete the VPs altogether. Just want to eliminate the unsupported menu options from the menus.

I was just able to install the 2.3 eval I have on an alternate disk drive with another 30 period. I made up a quick application with no problem and then installed the purchased 3.0 over 2.3. It was accepted and installed as a 30 evaluation for 3.0 Professional and is working fine.

I don't know where that leaves me now. I can't see inputing the product key they sent me causing the "down grade" but maybe it did.

I'll wait for support and see what the story really is.

If you bought the personal version, you are not going to have functionality of a "higher" version. I don't remember what the limitations were, but the integrity checker is pointing out some of them to you.

On AwareIM's old web page, they clearly outlined the features of each version & mentioned that the 30 day trial was for the Professional version.

I'm not sure where you are coming from because it's fairly typical for trial software to give "full features" for a specified length of time until you purchase your license. After test driving all the features, you then choose which features you need & buy the approprite product level.

What am I missing?

The "features" are an administrator's visual perspective and a guest's visual perspective both with "standard" menu items created as the default from the start. If those menu items are not supported than having them created by the configuration tool as default items is plain nonsense and the general quality of the product leaves me to believe it's not a QA mistake they would make. Also, even the sample "Library" application gets the same integrity violation messages.

The only substantial differences for the product levels shown now are "named user licenses" and support for additional database schemes. The personal edition is for one named user only and one instance of the development tools on one computer. Customers, clients, etc. using an application i.e. a shopping cart on the internet do not require named licenses.

There has to be another explanation.

Tom's last reply is perfectly correct - you have been given an evaluation version that corresponds to the Professional Edition and you have been warned about this.

Personal Edition does not support more than one visual perspective even though two are created by default - you have to delete one of them if you want to continue using the Personal Edition. Features of the Personal Edition have been clearly specified before the product has been discontinued - it is for personal non-commercial use ONLY. It has severe limitations in features and can only be used by one user.

If you want to use features of the evaluation version please upgrade to the Professional Edition.

I don't know who I'm talking to but what you are saying has serious holes in it. Please point me to any documentation or notification to me to that effect. Otherwise I will protest and vigorously. Please don't show me anything posted after I made my purchase 10/24/07.

Your attitude is remarkable. Instead of helping me and perhaps making a upgrade sale you are effectively telling me to buzz off. I'm sure your marketing staff will be interested because the potential here is significant. You have a very good product but your response is a definite show stopper.

I have to say that I think support has been very reasonable in their responses. They do a great job at supporting / fixing / enhancing what is a very powerful design tool. In addition to the forum support, that was evidenced by the many emails that you mentioned that you swapped with them.

When the web site had a personal edition listed, it clearly indicated for non-commercial personal use. Both they & I have tried to help you by telling you how to fix it if you want to use what you have already purchased. If you want to use all the features, you will simply import the BSV that you build under the evaluation version into your new version & all the functionality that you build before will be fully functional. It's a very simple process.

In addition to what Tom said. It is never our intention to tell users to buzz off - this forum is an evidence of this. The forum support is provided free of charge and if sometimes replies are curt, it doesn't mean that we are disrespectful - just that we do not have much time often to provide detailed answers.

In this particular case the situation is quite clear - you purchased an edition that has a particular set of features and you are using the BSV that was created by a higher level product. You either need to disable the features or upgrade to a higher level product.

True the business space I created with the eval system gets those errors and the sample library application does as well. The new business systems I create with the registered personal edition should not produce those features, but I assure you it does.

1- Per support's note from yesterday, the library app will NOT work in the Personal Edition because it has multiple Visual Perspectives.

2- The new systems you create will work if you delete one of the VPs per support's note yesterday.

A registered user of a product should not be expected to have to dig into and delete settings and features created by the product as defaults every time the user wants to create a new application.

I've been a systems designer and programmer producing commercial products for 35 years and I've never heard of such a thing and would never allow it in any product release I had anything to do with. If features are not to be supported they should not be included, period.

What you have here is a big bug. I expect that's why I don't see personal addition offered for sale anymore.

I'm working out a solution with Sandra Koslovski so I don't think any further discussion is necessary here.
