I´m sorry to say that I find Aware a bit unstable.

The problems are: no response from browser, long (very long) error messages in browserwindow, strange behaviour (may vary, restart of server usually helps).

This happens approx five times a week and we are 7 users who normally uses the system two to three times a day, so it´s a bit to often to be ok.

The normal procedure to resolve is to tell the user to close the browserwindow and try again. If this doesn´t work it´s restarting the serverservices.

I get the feeling that it is the connection between Aware and Tomcat and Jboss that is the problem (just my feeling for what it´s worth)

I think this is something to look into. I´m a bit doubtful to make my Awareapp public to customers at the moment!

This is not a very specific message. Many users are quite happy with Aware IM stability. Before pointing a finger at Aware IM please make sure that your application has been configured properly or that it is run in the appropriate environment (for example, many users experience problems simply because there is not enough memory allocated to different Aware IM components). If it is, then whenever you experience a hang or a strange behaviour - have a look at the output of all components and the Log Viewer. There may be clues as to what the problem is.

Saying things that the application is "unstable" and "strange" is not helpful and will not help us to identify the problem (if there is any).

Unstable? This is simply NOT TRUE.

We've been a HEAVY USER of Aware IM for almost 2 years and Unstable is not one of words I would use. Not that we haven't been thru the learning curve and a few issues. But at the end of the day they are very responsive with support and have always fix bugs and taken suggestions. You do need to give them a little info so people on the forum and support can help you.

The two things I would suggest without any additional information to go on:
#1) I would check and verify your sessions are not timing out?
#2) look at the memory setup and see if the app is running out of memory?

In all fairness, whatever it is I don't believe it is Aware IM.

Well, I´m sorry about the unspecificnes. Since the problems occur almost everytime I´m not arround I just have to ask the users what they excperienced and that is often a non specific science!

I take it from you answers that theres hope, however it would be nice to here from someone else as well.

I have made no changes to memorysettings and (a bit ashamed) haven´t looked in the logfiles either (where can you see if your app is out of memory?).

I have a question though: I know that some of my users sometime log on to the system using two tabs in IE with the same username. Is this ok or could this affect things and result in strange results?

Yes, I also get help from support so absolutely no complaing there, don´t get me wrong!

Hi Rem,

I can't say that I don't keep one one eye on my server all the time and have had my share of issues but for the most part I find that there are always reasons for any problems that I have encountered.

My suggestions would be:

Increase your memory settings. If you haven't done this, I would expect this to solve your problems. Max out whatever memory you have available.
Read your logs. View them in detailed mode in live time to see what is going on under the hood. Even if you don't understand it all at first, if you see tons of activity going on behind the scenes when nothing much is happening in the browser you probably have some 'messy' rules or processes.
Check your rules or processes for excessive quantity or endless loops. A caveat is to be careful of references from one BO to another BO, that has a lot of records. Sometimes, the first BO will try to run every rule in the second BO for every record in the same BO. I tend to use two way references only when absolutely necessary, and stick to one way references where possible.

Regarding two users logging at the same time - this shouldn't make any difference. Memory settings, though, can explain all your problems. If you see "Out of memory" message in any of the outputs increase the memory for the respective component.

Hi Tom,

It doesn't seem to matter how many times that I read the manual, I continue to find items that I have overlooked in the past. Yes, this feature relates exactly to what I am talking about. I will look back into my published apps and see if I can make use of this.

It has been my experience that it is all too easy to create rules and processes that run needlessly and the system can be sped up by ensuring that they only run when they need to. (I.e. WAS CHANGED TO ' ' rather than using WAS CHANGED etc...)

That's exactly why I read the forums myself & go to check out the manual based on the questions presented. I often have that "Oh yeh, I remember reading that now" experience. This was a great example of that for me also.
