I am unable to make a profit by making an application using Aware IM

Currently, I am creating software that would help mortgage brokers using Aware IM. And I compared the prices of PipeDrive which is also an application for mortgage brokers to give me an idea of how much I should charge my clients when my application is finished.

I would like to know how I could make a profit if for each client that I find, I have to buy a new Aware IM server and the amount that I can charge to my clients which is $150/month are the same that I have to pay to buy a new Aware IM server for a new client.

The money I made with my client will be immediately spent on purchasing a new Aware IM server. If you have other ideas, please tell me how it is possible for me to make money, because this way I really don’t see how I can make a profit.

To add to the previous comments, and perhaps clarify for Maxo42:
In the Aware documentation a ‘Multi tenant’ app usually refers to one application that serves multiple separate customers. Their information is separated by using access levels and Protect rules. But you can also choose to create separate but identical business spaces for your customers, all running on the same AwareIM server. So in that case you don’t need to create a multi-tenant app (at least in my definition of the term), but just copy your (single-customer) app to each the separate business spaces. Each business space will have their separate database, so the data is automatically separated (but all databases can run on the same database server). There are pros and cons to both approaches, so it is indeed important to think it through (as @kklosson correctly noted), but the important thing is that in both cases you can likely serve quite a lot of customers with just one Aware IM license. In that case you should be able to make sufficient margin when your customers pay $150/month each.

Aware is the solution if the customer needs fast modifications, advanced customization. You can not compare it to a package that does not need much database access and is pretty much ready to go out of the box. Aware is not a solution to everything, but when a customer can NOT find a package that does what he needs. Needs advanced database logic, speed of development, (more important, speed in modifications) then Aware is the “cats meow”.

Invest in a good server and store all large docs to AWS.
Then use multi Tenent on same server. One server with one Aware IM install can serve multiple Customers, so you pay for one Aware licence and have 10 - 20 customers on it, easy

For large clients that can afford and expect to pay…. they get their own VM and Aware license.
For small clients and apps, I run multiple Business Spaces on a single VM.
And, you are correct….. load is not an issue.

My “Rule of Thumb” is that if the app warrants it and a Client will pay min USD 1,000 per month, then they get their own environment. If not, then they need to share.

I make six figures + on a multi-tenant app with about 40 accounts. On any venture, you have to judge the market size and need. In my position, I would not want separatee databases for each client. The multi-tenant approach has forced me to consider all of the data access capabilities built into AwareIM. Between the Access Levels and Protect Rules, it’s pretty easy. But there may be considerations for going with individual databases. I run on AWS and it’s worth the cost to me but that’s a whole other bunch of tech to learn, but it’s not that bad. Going multi-tenant is a key decision before launching so think it through.
