Have buttons on Top bar of menu updated

I am writing an application with time clock logic. Specifically users can Punch IN or Punch OUT. When they do so, a field in regularuser is updated as to their login status. The requirements are to have 2 buttons on the menu on the top bar to call the punch IN / OUT procedures and only have the one that is valid enabled. My problem is once they punch in, and regular user is updated, I don't know how to REFRESH the top bar menu. Is this possible?

Hi Bruce,
Using AwareIM's demo CRM application as an example. It is possible to have an auto refresh if you created the menu as a content panel under the 'Main', 'Banner' or 'Footer' sections of the Visual Perspective editor. The same Auto-refresh is available on Business Object forms under 'Miscellaneous' in the form's settings.

In the screenshot below using the 'Auto-refresh info' settings (the ... next to the x) you can specify that the HTML content in that specific panel needs to be refreshed when a specific process is completed or Business Object is changed, you can has different auto-refresh settings for each content panel. From experience using the process option works the best. My Aware version is 9.0 so yours might look different if it is an older version.

A second option would be to redisplay the Visual Perspective using the same process that you use to Punch IN and OUT but I would not recommend you do this as it will essentially do the same thing as if you refreshed a URL and is not very user friendly.

Sorry, a picture probably would have helped. The buttons are on the toolbar menu item. There is no auto-refresh for these.

Then it will be a little more tricky. Could you explain in little more detail what exactly you need?

What exactly needs to refresh? The entire top bar or only one element of it?

If for example you want to update only the Text inside the MOTD you can give it a CSS class and add the following to the Punch In and Out processes.
EXEC_SCRIPT document.querySelector('.MOTDClassName').innerHTML ='Status: <<LoggedInRegularUser.PunchStatus>>'
(You need to add a backtick or backquote to encapsulate everything for EXEC_SCRIPTS and no double quotes only single quotes)

This will then update the text shown in the MOTD's text to be "Status: In" if the user checked in.
