query on "Query" object not displaying relational data

I have payments BO and it has aware Im relationship with customer BO. Now payment BO Query is not able to bring that Customer in query result grid. I have seen the same issue in CRM alerts grid where its not bringing customer name for whom alerts are created. This is important and I need to show customer names(one column in query result) in payments grid via query and should be able to filter it based on customer as well. Right now query itself does not show this customer name(aware IM relationship)

u have to have a Shortcut in the grid.
make a shortcut pointing to customer.name
