here is my 0.02 cents worth on my experiences with inline editing.
It works fine, data is saved, etc. etc. it is reliable, however there are the following "features":
1). As stated, there is no (easy) way to save the data until the user tabs off of the row. and if they don't, (if the query is closed), the data might not be saved. I am not sure about this. Although, you can have a button to "save inline edits" that the user can press
2). If you tab after the last column on the last row, Aware will open a new blank row on the bottom. So that is a tad confusing for your end user.
3). There is no easy way to work with the data once changed. I.e. if you have 2 columns, Qty and Price and want to compute the total by multiplying Qty and Price, It can not be done until the row has been saved.
4). The controls for validating, formatting the data (scrollers, date pickers) are somewhat limited
5). Can not use check boxes. Any Yes / No field can be DISPLAYED with a checkbox, but if you want the user to enter data into those attributes, you will get a Yes/No combo box. (ummm, I sort of remember checkboxes working back in the 90's. It seems like this should be supported!)
