8.1 beta released

Dear Aware IM customers,

the beta version of Aware IM 8.1 is now available for testing. Links are below:

Windows:

Please install 8.1 into a separate directory and do not use your production database.
The list of all features and improvements is in the Release Notes (in your root directory). Documentation on new features is available in the PDF files in the DOC directory (but not in online Help). There are no videos yet.

Your bug reports and feedback is appreciated. We especially need help with testing of the REST service consumption feature and the new features of the Report Designer (which is now based on the new Jasper Reports library.

Can this be installed and run on a production machine?
What if Tomcat is already running on port 80? (ie. was changed from the default 8080)
Will this run 2 tomcats?

You can run it on the production machine - but don't use the same database. Running both versions on the same machine at the same time is possible but not recommended. Also remember to clear browser cache every time you switch from 8.0 to 8.1 and back.

So, if we create any folder under, let's say "C:\AwareIM81Beta\Tomcat\webapps" and store our images, then Aware will use the images stored?

This should save a lot of image-processing resources, when dealing with queries that shows images.

Aware IM 8.1 Release Notes

Aware IM 8.1 contains a number of new features and improvements.
The list of the new features and improvements is shown below:

Automatic support for consuming REST services (with OAuth 2.0 and OAuth 1.0 support)
It is now possible to consume REST services exposed by popular vendors such as Facebook, Google etc
without having to write a Java plugin.
"Dynamic" columns for queries and references
It is now possible to perform calculations in queries "on the fly" without defining an additional
attribute and calculation rule on the corresponding object

Ability to add Calendar widget to the HTML of a content panel in a VP
Support for embedded spreadsheets
It is now possible for end users to import their Excel spreadsheets to perform calculations

Aware IM now integrates with the new Jasper Reports library and supports the following new features
of the report designer:
- Support for position types of all elements
- Ability to insert page break anywhere in the design
- Support for text rotation
- Justified alignment for text
- Support for borders for text and images
- Transparency support for text and rectangles
- Line spacing improvements, indentation support for text
- Support for the Table Element that allows embedding tables of related records without using a
  subreport
- Spacing elements vertically and horizontally
Comparison of two business space version with automatic highlighting of changes between versions
Office Online Integration
It is now possible to edit documents not only using Zoho but also using Office Online
Aware IM integrates latest most secure version of Tomcat 8.5
Rule language has the following additions
- EXEC_STRING action to dynamically form action string in the Rule Language format
- EVAL_STRING function to dynamically form and evaluate rule condition
- LOG action to put record in the rule log
- LOG CONTEXT action to dump current context
- COMMIT TRANSACTION action
- Ability to specify section name in ENTER NEW, EDIT and VIEW actions: ENTER NEW Obj USING Main SECTION Main

Support for transaction isolation level per process

Ability to enter dates using masked text input
In a query with inline editing and default operation - if a cell is not editable, the default operation is invoked
It is now possible to include shortcuts into editable attributes for calendars (default pop-up form)
They are edited as drop downs (similar to inline editing of shortcuts in standard queries)
Borders between multi-attribute cells are displayed in the form designer
Objects put in the Context by an ordered query (FIND ... ORDER BY) maintain their order when processed
Ability to sort attributes in a Business Object Editor (Configurator) by Name, Type and Required
Ability to save a form when a focus is lost

Support, is it possible to expand this feature to accept a text file that contains multiple strings of actions, just like when we write a rule that may have multiple actions and conditions? So we can provide the file name to the EXEC_STRING as parameter?
Based on the same multiple lines in a single text file concept, be able to put multiple lines in a DB attributes, rather than creating multiple DB records/objects that each object has to hold a single line of string?

I was asking the syntax of how "Multiple" actions (strings) can be given to a SINGLE EXE_STRING to run them them. Are they separated by comma or what?
