Drop-in mySQL databases

Hello, I'm new to the forum and getting around to evaluating AIM and will obviously have many questions.

I wondered if anyone had any success using any of the mySQL compatible 'drop-in' databases with AIM like MariaDB or Amazon Aurora?

I have used other apps that specifically required mySQL and using these two have not caused any problems since the app connection strings and operational aspects are the same as with mySQL.

I've only used mySQL natively, so I'm not the best person to respond, but the question that comes to my mind is are you looking to bring in one of these DBMSs as an external database or do you want to develop natively with one? If the former, then there should be no problem as I'm sure these DBMSs have JDBC drivers. If the latter, then I have just wasted your time.

I did a trial with Maria DB and it trashed my mySQL database.

Haven't been brave enough to try it since and mySQL works fine for me.

I think what you're asking me is do I want to use AWS Aurora as my application's backend database, then yes. I don't plan on using it as the local development database that the Aware IM IDE runs on. Does it make it any difference if I run AIM on Derby and my applications on an external DB?

'Trashed' as in it corrupted your database?

Many of the References that had been established in MySQL where corrupted in Maria DB

Drop ins are just that, drop in. I have yet to run into any problems with any applications that run on mySQL when using MariaDB or Aurora since they're technically the same as mySQL, just tuned up versions for speed. I was just hoping others had already tested these more thoroughly, especially Aurora.

I have done some simple testing with Aurora and it seemed fine.
