Not that I am one to complain, but since my main customer has been bitching to me about the limitations of inline editing, let me share some of them with you guys. Perhaps I am missing something.
Biggest problem: You have to leave the line for an edit to take! If there is one row, the user clicks to edit it, enters some data, they have to keep tabbing until a new phantom row is created for the original data to be saved. If there is more than one row, then they have to click on a diff. row for the changes to be saved. He is NOT happy! Is there any way to have a query save when its abandoned? Sort of like forms do? Or after every cell is edited?
UI Limitations: We are in 2K17. How come I can display a checkbox, but you can not EDIT a checkbox on a query? I have to have Yes/No for the user to make changes. So if display only, I can use the nice looking, intuitive checkboxes that every other program uses. However, if I want to edit it, then I need to use Yes/No.
I lose the Default Row Operation if editable. Many times, when the user selects a record, related queries / forms are populated. (I.E. Select a customer and a query of their orders, a form with the details, etc. will show up on the VP. You can NOT do that if the query is editable.
These are just 3 of the ones my customer is complaining about. Am I the only one who uses inline editing and who is not happy with this? I figure if we have enough, we can contract Vlad to update this functionality.
