Have been asked by a client to help develop a Sharepoint alternative, all pretty easy using Aware, except they want to integrate/sync with Outlook (Calendar, Tasks, Contacts)
Has anyone done a similar thing?
Used any reasonably priced Outlook plugins /APIs that you could recommend?
My only thoughts so far were to install a (open source) Funambol server (see http://funambol.com/ and http://sourceforge.net/projects/funambol/ ) , use the Funambol Outlook sync client to sync to Funambol and then get Aware to tap into the DB tables in Funambol. This seems like a massive mission given the objective.[/b]
Rod. Aware 8.6 (latest build), Developer Edition, on OS Linux (Ubuntu) using GUI hosted on AWS EC2, MYSQL on AWS RDS
I think the best solution would be to integrate to Google Calendar and then let your client use the Google calendar/outlook utility to Sync with AwareIM via Google Calendar.
Also, this would broaden the scope and have much better appeal to other clients and applications
my experience with outlook integration goes is that it is never as simple as it seems like it should be, it's a support nightmare, and and on-going PITA. Just my 2 cents.
Hey All, I am also very intersted in a google / oAuth plugin and would contribute to development. I got a ballpark estimate from aware support not too long ago....
[Vladimir Simkine] The ballpark cost estimate is 2-3K. Timeframe is 1-2 weeks
Gee I would contribute as well to anything that gave us easy integration to GMail, Google calendar, tasks etc. This plus the ability to easily save a link or shortcut to a file on disk rather than to have to upload it are the two issues highest on my wish list.
