cannot create MS word document templates when running 64bit

I have not been able to save an MS word document template when running under 64bit. I have tried this on 2 separate 64bit laptops. The import completes, but save does not work.

When I switch back to 32bit the MS Word doc template saves, so looks like this is isolated to 64bit.
