Remove ability to delete appointments from calendar view

I want to remove the ability to delete events/appointments from the calendar but (the small X in the right corner) but when I go to Other Calendar Options the option for "Allow deleting appointments" is grayed out. Is there a way to remove this capability?

I believe this was an issue in 7.1 that was resolved in 8.0
