What SSL Certificate vendor are you using?

Post by BenHayat »

For me to process STRIPE payment transactions, which SSL Certificate is sufficient and who offers a decent one that is not super expensive?
I've seen them range from $10/year to over $500/year for single domain SSL Certificate.

What are you using?
Thanks!

Hi Ben,

I is not a case of which one do you need for Stripe payments. It is more about what domains etc that you want to secure.

Personally, I would not opt for one of the free or cheap and cheerful certs (like 40 bucks).

I would recommend DigiCert as the service was exceptional.

Basically this is my understanding.

Standard SSL Certificates (Single Name) – SSL for a single Domain …. Mycompany.com or www.mycompnay.com - no sub domains

Extended Validation (EV) Certificates - Highest level of authentication – get the Green Bar – Builds trust - no sub domains

Multi-Domain (SANS) Certificates – Multi Root Domain / Multi Server Certificate - no sub domains

Extended Validation (EV) Multi-Domain Certificates – Combo EV and SANS certificate - no sub domains

Wildcard SSL Certificates (Entire Domain) – Secures entire domain including sub-domains
Cheers,
Mark

Thanks Mark;
Yes, DigiCert is on the top of my list.
As a customer of 1&1.com which is a re-seller of GeoTrust, I can get a good discount. Which GeoTrust seems to be pretty reputable.

This one was also recommended by STRIPE as well.

I use gandi.net for all (most) my domains and also for Aware SSL. A standard SSL is even included free with all domains and works in Aware.

Gandi also has some other great things like whois privacy for ALL domains (Gandi is in between), various hosting options if required etc., domain parking, basic email + I just love their motto "Gandi.net - no bullshit" :D
