Permissions query

Hey there.

I have Consultants who are linked to the Clients that they deal with. What I want to do, is have an Accounts person who can log in and check a box that says Bad Payer or something. The issue comes in, in that if another user type saves the object, the Consultant disappears. How could I allow Accounts to edit the Client without "saving over" the Consultant linked to it? The Account person would also need a little comment block to type in notes. I thought of displaying all of the Clients in a table on her dashboard with only name, bad payer and note section and allowing inline editing but that affects the Consultant still, surely?
