SQL Server Speed and the Tuning advisor

Post by robv »

Hi

I am busy importing data intomy SQL server database. This is proving to be a very slow process - mainly as a result of the significant number of rules that exisit in the process.

So I ran the advisor utility that comes with SQL Server 2005 to see what recommendations it has made. It has advised a >90% improvement in speed with its recommendations.

I have no experience in the effectiveness of this tool as respects AwareIm, so cannot make an educated decision as to the validity of its recommendations.

Would welcome any thoughts regarding modifying and adding indexes within the databsae environment - i.e. not from within the AwareIM config tool, but from within the database management tools itself.

Thanks

If you are importing with validation on then it is very likely to be slow. BUT, you only import once, so you can probably tolerate one long import.

Regarding indexing - this is likely to improve queries only, not import.
