Upgrade to v4 or not?

Post by Rem »

Hi!

Have just been using our system for some time now with minor changes.

But now comes the question if we should upgrade to v4 or not?

Will there be problems?
Can you just upgrade as you would have done to a new 3 build?
Will there be speed changes and if so, better or worse?

You guys who have done it will know, right?

Rem,

See http://www.awareim.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2501 + do a search. You will find other V4 posts.

To me it's a no-brainer. V4 is must faster + very much more flexible in layouts. The online sample apps show the speed / power.

Thanks Tom!

So, say have you upgraded all your v3 apps?

Rem,

Still in the process of doing that due to priorities. What I have converted has gone well though.

Can you upgrade to v4 and still run in a v3 mode?

Yes -- This is from ReleaseNotes.txt file in V4 AwareIM directory:

Aware IM 4.0 implements an entirely new web user interface. Because of this certain capabilities
of the old interface are no longer supported in the new version. However, you can still run your
existing applications using the old web interface. If you want Aware IM to use the old interface
start your web applications using old login URL's. If you want Aware IM to use the new interface
use new login URL's:

Old URL ........... New URL
--------------------------------------------------
logon.jsp ........... logonAdmin.html
logonOp.jsp ........... logon.html
logonOp.do?... ........... logonOp.aw?domain=CRM&userName=admin&password=password&testingMode=false

So to start Aware IM 4.0 you would typically type in the following URL into your browser:
http://localhost:8080/AwareIM/logonAdmin.html
