limiting number of found objects

A standard presentation form of a query has a simple option for limiting number of found objects/instance by selecting Take Best X items boxes. However, if a query results are presented by a custom presentation, then this option is not available. Is there a way to restrict number of objects retrieved by a query or displayed by a custom presentation?

This option is also available for custom presentations - it is located just above the combo-box showing available presentations

I am missing it on my screen. There is only an option of displaying a
number of results per page ...

I didn't realize you were using a query in the Rule form. In this case you
should specify it in the query itself:

FIND ... TAKE BEST 5 ORDER BY ...
