Drop down / Lookup values

If I want to have an attribute with a list of values to select from (drop down) there are two ways I can do this:

a) In the design - add the values
b) Have a Business Object with the values and refer to it

I need to be able to have the custromer maintain the values, which points to option (b), but using that method makes things slow. Is there other anyway that the values in a drop down can be added or amended withou having to go to a separate business object.

We are now adding a new feature in Aware IM that will allow end users to manage the list of choices (add, edit, delete). This has been requested before (see http://www.awareim.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=122).

The feature will be available within the next few weeks (not in September-October) as indicated in the quoted thread.
