Evaluation Questions

Post by denisv »

1) Is it possible to develop an app for a customer for distribution with some form of evaluation license ? (Drop dead date etc)

2) When issuing a minor or major update to an app you have developed, does the set-up file only reflect the application and not the standard bundled applications needed for a full installation (i.e. tomcat, jbos, derby etc)

3) What is the te difference between named user licenses and customer licenses in terms of functionality of the connection. Is there an actual restriction in use of the app if you are not a named user or is the licensing policy based on trust.

1) Yes. The software will stop functioning after 30 days after installation unless the customer enters a product key. The developer's distribution license should include evaluation terms consistent with the Awaresoft Software License Agreement.

2) If you want to distribute an update to your application, and you have not updated the version of Aware IM since you distributed the previous version of your application, you can simply export the business space version of your updated application into a file and distribute the file to your clients. All they have to do is close down Aware IM, copy the updated configuration file into subdirectory AUTO_DEPLOYMENT of their Aware IM installation directory, and restart Aware IM. The application update will be applied automatically.

If you have updated the version of Aware IM since you distributed the previous version of your application, you will need to build and distribute the full setup package. The clients can install it on top of their existing installation, in which case a new database will not be installed.

3) At this stage the licensing policy in regards to the named user licenses is based on the legal obligations of users under the license agreement. We may add license enforcement functionality to the software in the future.

Thanks

1) So we can compile and release the app and it will run without the license for the standard 30 days - great.

2) Understood, perfect

3) Not trying to circumvent the license !!! Just wanted my understanding clarified.
