Validating data on data entry

Hi Support,

I have looked at the examples in the user guide on validating data.

Can you use the same methods to check if a record already exists.

For example I might have an item with an item code 12345 in the database already. if a user created a new item and enters 12345 for the item code can the system display a message saying "The item code entered already exists. Please enter another code for this item"
