String/Pattern Occurrence Count?

I think I have found a missing function. Or in other words I think I have a need for a function.

I am trying to count the number of times a string appears in another string (specifically '<br>') so that I can then pad out an HTML field with extra <br>s so that my boxes are showing as the right size. I had misread INDEX as counting the occurrence of a string when it is actually only pinpointing the position of the first occurrence.

Is there a way to work out how many time a substring appears in a string, for example to count how many <br> I need to add to make my html the same size
